Would you buy this scope?

A few key things mentioned - *possible* release date of May; maker is LOW (fantastic); LOW are aware of Rokslide drop eval and already know what is required for a scope to pass that, so manufacturing should be straightforward; scope is being sourced from LOW via a middle company that not everyone will have heard of [but who know their stuff]; aim is for a US$999 price point [although it would still be competitive at $1200 IMHO].

Oh, and reticle confirmed as a 'simplified THLR' with just the middle stadia, not the upper and lower sections or the milling scale. (I'm assuming we'll still get the lower thick line for the modified German #1-ish reticle.)

There was mention of the simplified version possibly coming with a simplified ranging element - anything on that?

That all sounds great except the middle man arrangement, but I trust there are good reasons behind it
All it means is that they're doing this with a company that already has a long-standing relationship with LOW: they know the optics field, have history, and no doubt have experience in every aspect of the process from concept to detailed specification to ordering to oversight.

Far from being an issue, in this case it's what is necessary, and what you'd want.

As was also mentioned earlier, I’m fairly certain that LOW doesn’t actually retail to anyone individually? I believe that they manufacture only, for others to sell, but correct me if I’m wrong?

Low will not work with you unless you have at least 3 years of optics sales experience. If you're really curious you can go right to their website, see the requirements, and then email them. You'll learn that they stick to their listed requirements.

Too bad. I have an old note I’d saved essentially detailing this. But I’d have been a startup and I don’t have the time. I’d sent it to Leupold but they never responded.

There’s another company in Idaho with ties to LOW and they know a thing or two about building tough scopes and testing each of them before sending to customer. This company also has a hole in their lineup for an FFP scope with a good hunting reticle.

I highly doubt it would be them with the $999 price point though.

That is the data point that gives me pause.

The only counter I have is it’s not entirely out of line with SHV line, and a fair amount of pricing on premium products is driven by marketing strategies. It’s not always a pure price to build based price. Or, I could be completely off track.

Those turrets though….

This from @Dobermann rules out NF IMO:

I was (pleasantly) surprised when I heard that price point. I'm very curious what concessions they had to make to hit it. I understand the weight is coming in a little higher than originally intended, and I would expect the glass to be "good" and capable through legal shooting light but not "great." I'm hoping that's it.

We can always dream, but I thought it wasn't one of the really well-known manufacturers.

my guesses:
1. huskemaw
2. element
3. leatherwood
4. swamp fox
5. primary arms

it would be kind of cool if they revived an old brand though, like Dr. Optik or Unertl.

I don’t believe that is what was said. They said the company was not publicly known yet. As in, they simply have not announced the company yet. My interpretation anyway.
