Would Tikka ever make a 280AI as a factory caliber?

Alright just curious from ppl who would know better. What are the chances that a company like Tikka would make a 280AI as a factory option? Now that Browning is offering the caliber throughout their lineup I'm curious who else might follow. I'd love to just get a Tikka lite or superlite in 280AI and call it done.

Sorry this irks me , I just have to say you are using entirely inappropriate terminology. You should be asking if Tikka will offer the 280Ai as a factory chambering. Also the 280AI is a cartridge and not a calibre.

If you want one badly enough just buy a Tikka chambered on 30-06 Springfield or other similar length cartridge and have a new barrel made & fitted by a trusty gunsmith. Sell off the OEM barrel or keep it, easy to switch barrels on Tikka's.

No, they would do a 7X64 Brenneke and give the .280 AI or standard the finger. Europe has had a .280 since 1917 and doesn't need our silly improvements. Oh, and they have a 7mm Rem Mag, which more people buy. The entirety of the .280 AI buying public would fit in a medium sized football stadium.

Mulga, the Tikka selector on the website list the cartridge as Caliber. I think it's an equality thing. Europe is more progressive than us.

Sorry for "irking" you. I was simply looking at the Tikka website and going from how they labeled their offerings. But I can appreciate that some people are a little more sensitive to things like that. Makes us all individuals ;)

Regardless I still appreciate the feedback and would consider looking at other options such as rebarreling. I'm still pretty new to all of this so am just looking for thoughts and opinions. If I thought I knew all the answers I probably wouldn't be on here asking the questions.

Too easy. Yeh don't worry about me mate, I'm a scientist; Taxonomy and stuff. Funny enough I asked Barrett the same question regarding the Fieldcraft and 280AI. I ended up buying a second hand Kimber MA in 280AI.

Tikka's are easy to swap the barrel on. There are a lot of options out there. I'd get a .270 or .30-06 and a new barrel. I just finished a 280AI build myself, and I'm really liking it thus far. It was not with a Tikka though, it was a custom. Still doing load development, but even shooting 175ABLR's its recoil is very manageable and I can spot my hits even at 100 meters.

I don't know what kind of shooting you're wanting to do, but if it involves heavier bullets for longer range shooting the Tikkas are not the way to go with long action chamberings.

I would have to study it but I suspect a .280 Ackley reamer will clean up a 7-08 chamber which is available in a Tikka. Get a LA bolt stop and a LA magazine and you’re all set. Depending on the gunsmith it could be pretty quick and not too expensive.

You want to act so sophisticated and all knowing but you say things like "mate" and "and stuff." Get out of here with that nonsense. To me mate is like saying "bud' or "guy" here. Just shows who you are and stuff.

The 280AI in a Tikka action is available through Granite View Sports in Delta Jct, AK. They install a Bartlein carbon fiber barrel in Alaska Contour and an upgrade stock.....nicely done I might add........Of course it's more $$$ but it is complete and ready to hunt with no hassle.

I like the sounds of that. Unfortunately I live in BC so probably not realistic to shop in AK. But I should go check in with a couple reputable gunsmiths and see what they say about making a Tikka into a 280AI.

I'm know I could just get a Tikka 7RM and be done with it. But its fun to think of a 280AI and I like the idea of being able to get a faster twist barrel. Everyone has great advice so thanks for that.

762Gunner, Just curious….Why is the tikka not a good option in the long action?
