Is it worth it to cut down a tikka in 6.5 creed to 20”? Should I keep at 24”? I’ll be running a suppressor on it.

how much velocity should I expect to lose?

I cut mine down from 24-20. It went from 2740 to 2675 or somewhere around there. No desire to have a 24” barrel plus a suppressor.

I think so. 22" is the longest barrel I can stand to be around with a can on. I chopped an x bolt creed to 18" and don't miss out on anything with hadloads, using rl 26 I'm still way ahead of factory stuff when it was 22". 20 inches is really a nice spot for a suppressed hunting rig. Recently purchased a 7-08 tikka and went with the compact since the barrel was already 20" and I knew I would end up cutting anything longer. Of the three rifle barrels I've cut down about 25 fps per inch has been a solid average, that's a 300 savage, 280 and 6.5 creed. If you need to convince yourself, just thread your rig at 24" and hump it through the timber for a week with the can on, it'll feel six feet long.

Just got back from bear hunting. Had my can on my 28” .300win mag. It was awful. I think that’s why I pulled the trigger on this tikka haha.

I had thoughts of rebarreling to a .270wsm or 7saum at 20” but have 100 rounds of creed I can test first lol

I’d cut it to 20 in a heartbeat. 20-25 fps per inch would be expected, but you could narrow the gap by dropping to a 130 class bullet and the right powder choice.

I cut mine down to 20" and it lost less than 100 fps, I'm working on a 120gr Barnes load to use on short range whitetails so the loss in velocity didn't really matter for what I'm doing.

I had a 20” and 24” creed at the same time. Love the 20” it’s a great length for a short action compact rifle.

24 with a suppressor gets a little ridiculous if you ask me for a carry hunting rifle.

That said if you’re tikka 6.5 barrel is anything like the 4 Iv put my hands on and loaded for it will be slow.
