Work Boots

I thought I had a dream come true when I put on a pair of Keen Pittsburgh's.. I was wrong. Even tho the "foot orgasm" has been pretty amazing the f'ing piles of crap fall apart on real "men's" :) feet at under 6 months I continue my search..

The problem with most boots is leather stretch, then the extra sock's and insoles cramp space. I'd pay alot for the best. I walk all day everyday. I carry too much weight including my own over rocky and sandy terrain.

Anyway, I got crazy sensitive/sore feet. I've yet to find a boot or boot insole combination that can make it past 6 months comfort/toughness.

I'm all ears...

Thanks

I've been using Redwing 604 boots for 10 years as an auto tech. That environment is pretty harsh on boots, but I'm still able to get 4 years out of each pair. My last purchase I decided to try a different model from Redwing and they pretty much sucked. What didn't suck is they exchanged them for a 3rd pair of 604's. The point is Redwing has different model boots for different industries. Let them size you up and point you to the models best for carpentry work.

Thanks, and I agree on all points. I'm also around alot of sharp objects, and can be arounds chemical's via paper mills.

I'll go look now at the 604's.

Keen millwalkies is what I am currently running. It will be two years in Dec. for this pair. I responded to a post under footwear with pics. These are the best boots I have found in 10 years working in a steel mill. Like you most boots only last me 6 months. After the first 6-8 months I pulled the stock foot beds and put my supper feet in. Let me know what you find. I plan on buying another pair or two of the keens for future use before they quite making them.

I bought a pair of the Targhees from Keen and absolutely loved them....for about 6 months. Then they fell apart. That sucks because I love the way they fit me.

I run the 608, witch is the same as the 604 just in an 8" version. I am an electrician and I run these boots in all kinds of terrain form concrete to snow. This is by fair the best boot I have ever owned. I got 6 years out of my first pair and I am on year 3 with the second pair.

Redwing moved part of there factory overseas and those boots suck. There US made boots are some of the finest work boots on the market.

As an Ironworker, I am very hard on boots..... Cutting, welding, burning, climbing, all different kinds of conditions, etc. Check out Redwing 877's or Thorogood American Heritage series. They feel like your favorite moccasins when broken in. When the soles wear out, get them resoled for 40-60$. I can get three or four resoles before the leather is worn out..... Won't wear anything else for work.

Rain Forest 8" Brown are what I have been using for the past 7 years. I have two pair to rotate. I am picky about boot care, since I am on my feet all day also and have bad knees and back. So, I keep mine oiled and cleaned so they will hold up. When I go to buy work boots I bring any insoles with me to try them in the boots and the socks that I wear, so that I get the best fit.

I wear mine up and down hills all day and they get chemical on them from spraying vegetation. n hThe only thing that I would change is to put a higher heel on them since I am walking on hills so much.

Salmo, call Keen up and see what they will do for you; maybe that's been done. It sounds to me though you have a good chance at them being replaced for free. I'm on my second pair of Pittsburghs. My first went about 2 1/2 years before I replaced them with my second pair (2 months ago).

Actually I'm gonna order some Thorogoods. Lots of my ironworker friends have them and for work I like the sole. I snagged the irishsetters for hunting the wet-side this year..

My dad told me that it's better to buy two pairs of the same work boot and alternate them. He said these two pair alternated would last longer than 3 separate pair worn constantly and purchased back to back.

Man, I wish I had a suggestion. I used to wear redwings and I could get a solid year out of them. I know what I put those boots through, and I have to say I'd hate to see what your doing to wear a pair out in 6 months. Best of luck
