Wisconsin Bow Hunting Trip

PAL is public access lands, what I meant was VPA lands which are Voluntarily Public Access lands, privately owned lands that allow public access for hunting, etc.
Not sure if you’re looking still, but there is a layer on the PAL website the DNR has to find those MFL lands. Make sure to double check they are open though.

Just found the layer, and just emailed the DNR to try and get a KMZ or Shapefile. That opens up a whole new group of huntings opportunities.

Trying to make the poor feller quit deer hunting?

I've hunted the north woods of WI my entire life - 38 years in the woods for bow, rifle, ML srasons. In our little corner of the far north part of the state, there's not much these days. Was decent up till around 10 years ago. It's dead now. And if you are going to hunt "up north", focus on timber company and county forest land. It gets logged more frequently than federal forest; as such, it's generally better deer habitat.

I'd look at public marshes. I often pheasant hunt these areas around the central part of the state, and I've jumped some monster bucks through the years while doing so. Of course they hole up in the thickest stuff imaginable, so not sure what the best approach for archery hunting is, but at least they're there, and the dates you listed are the time to get one not following the normal nocturnal only routine.

Yeah, it takes some digging but it’s a good well kept secret. It’s not for the faint of heart. I appreciate that it requires some digging and not easy accessible on an app.

Good luck!

Had some plan changes, and getting to go up and hunt a week earlier 1-7 Nov. according to y’all’s responses it should be a bit better window.

Killed my #2 and #3 on November 1st! Same stand. Same arrow. 2 years apart. Within 2-3 yards of the same spot. Both wheelout of there, jumped a fence at the same spot and died 10 yards apart. (November 1st is my Birthday 🥳 )

I grew up in Dunn County, between Hudson and Eau Claire. Pretty decent bucks lurking around. I’d say Halloween/Nov 1 is when I’ve always killed my best bucks. My property never seems to hold the real mature bucks. They always shift off my property and go 1 mile north. We call it the dink factory. Killed 1 at 150 and a couple around 140’s.

Look into MFL property. People will put their land into Management Forest Land for tax breaks. Some opt to keep it private others go for the Mack daddy tax break and go public. Finding those 20, 40 acre parcels between some big farmers with water, good cover and creeks would be ideal. I’ve always wants to dedicate a couple of weeks to hunt like this but never do. I always end up in the same stands on my same property seeing the same deer, complaining about the same neighbors. 😂

Got a big 8 lurking on my property. Something to get you whitetail guys fired up about! Hopefully my niece can see him this weekend during the youth hunt 🤞🏼

So my best friend and I have decided to check out Wisconsin this year sometime between November 3rd and November 14th to do some archery hunting.

So a couple questions?

What would be the best dates to target in that range?

What are some good public properties to check out, with a better chance at a good deer? I’m hoping that targeting weekday archery hunting may leave the woods a bit less packed. Not looking for anyone’s specific honey holes, just looking for some direction. If you don’t won’t to post on a public forum, I understand, send me a message.

Any help is much appreciated in advance.
Im looking to do this this year how dis you fair? Where did you end up? Im planning to camp and saddle hunt the last week of Oct. Could use all the info i could get lol it'll be my first public land hunt I always hunt private.
