Winter jacket recommendation

I have been wearing an old Columbia winter jacket while hunting and ice fishing and I think it’s finally time to retire it. It had a light puffy layer that I could wear on its own or it could be zipped inside a water resistant shell.

I am primarily hunting in Wisconsin but also take a trip out west every year. I see a lot of guys wearing puffy jackets but my concern is that when I move through a little brush I will tear it up in a hurry. I also want to stay warm but don’t like feeling like a marshmallow man haha. I would also prefer a solid color so I can use it for things other than hunting.

I should also mention that I’m kind of on a budget with two kids under two years old at home. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

How about an inexpensive puffy and throw a loose fleece over it. Or throw a windshell over it.

You can find decent puffys for $50ish

I have this one with a hood. It was $40 at the time. Still worth it for $60

I stay warm in 0* with a base layer and some wool/fleece
