Does anyone have any experience with a Winchester XPR 6.8 Western ? I saw a used one for sale at a decent price. I was just curious how they shoot.

Not 6.8 but I recently sold my 30-06 XPR to a buddy. I regret it and will buy it back some day!

It had a better trigger than any of my other rifles to be honest. It broke in nicely after a couple hundred rounds.

Shot sub-1/2 moa groups at 100 using cheap Cor-lokt ammo.

I wish more companies would support them with aftermarket stocks etc.

Again, not a 6.8 Western, but I’ve had a Winchester XPR in 6.5 Creedmoor since it came out. I bought it on a great sale with intentions of using the factory ammo and rifle as a backup or for those new to hunting.

After mounting a Zeiss HD5 in Talley Lightweights, I took her to the range along with two boxes of Winchester Deer Season XP 125gr figuring I’d run one box through to get it dialed in well enough for minute of deer and keep the other box for the rare occasion when I might need to use/lend the rifle. Much to my amazement, after the initial sighting, the first three shots through it printed at 3/4” at 100 yards with that factory ammo. After getting the scope set up to hit where I wanted, I was able to do a wee bit better than that with those 125gr Deer Season XP bullets.

I went out and bought a few more boxes of various factory ammo and all shot well, with a few bragging rights groups that I have never bettered with expensive custom rifles and pet handloads. It is almost boringly accurate, and it doesn't care if I run 120gr - 147gr bullets as it digests all sizes equally well.

The surprisingly nice trigger breaks like glass at 3.2-3.4 lbs. No creep. No over travel. No worries.

The stock mitigates recoil much better than the factory stocks on the least expensive Tikka rifles.

I’ve used it on a few hunts and it has performed as expected. Easy one-shot success with a few different bullets.

I now use factory-loaded Hornady 140gr ELD-M for everything where I might need to take a long shot (this load is good out to about 600 yards, or so) and I still use the 125gr Deer Season XP for deer hunting when I know I won't be taking a shot over 200 yards (although I'd be comfortable out to 400 with this load) as this bullet seems to hold together well at close range and provide rather spectacular bang/flop kills.

Due to my experience with this rifle, I am now toying with the idea of getting the suppressor-ready, fluted barrel 20" Winchester XPR in 6.8 Western and throwing a can on it and start launching 175gr bullets down range at steel, paper and critters.

It’s a great rifle. You may not find much love on a forum of tinkerers, hand-loaders and old-school hunters, but the XPR shoots lights-out and is pretty much unbeatable for the money as a straight-outta-the-box shooter. Buy with complete confidence.
