I have a 2016 Model 70 I had built into a 280ai with a 1/8 to run 175s. New barrel and stock, receiver squared. My oem box mag is 3.8 max. To run Berger 175 EH I need 3.51. Ive recently learned I can remove a spacer in my oem box and get 3.6.....perfect! My question is, Model 70 parts are HARD to find. Does anyone know if post 64 CRF parts, box mag, ejector, and bolt stop specifically, fit a 2016 model? Im unsure if mine is an FN SC or a Portuguese model or if that even matters. I specifically need 375 HH parts to swap OR modify my oem parts but it would be nice to have spares in case I screw stuff up.

I can understand your hesitation to modify the standard magazine box. I drilled out the spot rivets holding the spacer in place, leaving four holes. Of course the holes didn’t impact the function, but they always bothered me. Today I’d still drill them out, but weld the holes closed as well as the rear of the magazine, file the welds down so it blends with the box and refinish the part. I never understood why the spacer was used in the first place since it functions just fine without it, unless it was a common preference at the time to not have extra space or to simply make the box feel more rigid when disassembling the rifle.

The issue you might encounter isn’t with the length of 375 H&H box, but it’s designed for a different diameter. At least with a 1990’s push feed belted magnum magazine in a magnum receiver, it wouldn’t feed a standard case, but that could have been more a matter of the magnum receiver feed rails. There is a Winchester collector forum and those guys seem to know more than anyone else about what parts interchange and oddball combinations. I’ve found photos of unique combinations there that aren’t anywhere else.

Good luck

TaperPin is correct. Also, the follower is different. I converted a standard magnum to a H&H length. I read about how easy it was. Not so much.

There is a guy that goes by Redneck I believe it is on the 24hr dumpster fire website. He is a professional gunsmith, in Wisconsin I think. I forget his real name. Anyway he was super helpful with me and would be a good guy to ask or have do the work. It could be as simple as pulling the spacer, changing the bolt stop and ejector to H&H, and using the same follower you have now. I found parts at Midwest Gun Works but mine was a lefty.
