I have a made in Portugal M70 Super Grade in .300 Win Mag. It has been to Africa and acquitted itself well there. Love the rifle. I have handled the Super Grades with the maple stocks. They certainly stand out, and the fit and finish is excellent. My experience with maple in the context of furniture is that it continues to harden with age and can become brittle, but I have no experience with it in the firearms context. I have a Takamine guitar with a maple body, and it sounds great.
