Winchester 94, 30-30 optic options

The red dot is awesome, I’d prefer a holographic, they work well, I would just prefer a peep for nostalgia
There are a few options to put a Pic/Weaver rail forward of the action. Then you can put whatever you want on.

Yes. I like the look of the peep better on this rifle.
I also like the longer sight to sight distance.
If you’re looking for a small fixed lower optic, I highly suggest a holographic over a red dot. For hunting I’d be fine w an open emitter:

I have the Williams foolproof peep on my model 94.
I find it to be very accurate for open sights, and I think you’ll be happy with it.
I would recommend getting the different sized apertures for it as well.
I have a small one (.125) for sighting in, and a .5 for reg use (I think that’s what comes with the sight.
In some situation while hunting I’ve taken the aperture off and just use the aperture hold like a ghost ring.
Here in N.Y. we can hunt 30 min past sundown and I was able to get a good sight picture on a Doe with ten minutes left of available shooting using just the aperture holder.
I like the brass ring apertures best but you may not care much about that.
Make sure you follow the directions when setting up and sighting in as you can strip some of the screws if done wrong.
It really is easy to get adjusted.

This 12”(edited from 6”) target is at 204 yards shooting handloads of 160 gn FTX bullet with Leverevolution powder, through the Williams off a rest.

What front sight are you using? Any way to mic the height from bottom of barrel to top of sight? I read somewhere I may need a diff front sight

I have my original front bead sight on my rifle.
My rifle is a 1980 so it is in the same range as yours and I had no problem getting it adjusted to where I needed it, although I’ve heard people say that they’ve had to switch front sights.
I did not have to.
