For sale is a Winchester Model 1886 made in 1921. This rifle was originally .33 Winchester, but at some point in the distant past, someone put a .45-70 barrel on it. The original .33 Winchester barrel has managed to stick with it through the years!
When I was a kid, this was a grail rifle. The half-length magazine looked so cool to me. I have successfully hunted with this rifle, but I don’t really have a use for it. The only way I see this rifle getting significant use is if Virginia expanded muzzleloader season to allow straight wall center fires. Which seems unlikely…
For the wrong price, I am content to let it hang out in the back of my gun safe for a few more decades, but that’s no place for a hunting rifle.
I stick to my philosophy that a rifle is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. My asking price is $1800, but I am open to offers based on comparable examples and/or from the right buyer.
As always, I encourage interested parties to FaceTime me to get a better look at this nice old rifle.
