I almost hope they aren't threaded, if that makes them cheaper, unless they're available as 16" or 18" from the factory. 20" is just too long when you stick a can on the front.

I recently found out that my local smith has went up - a lot - on what he charges to thread. Enough that it's not really worth it to buy a 20" if I have to pay to have it cut to 18". $250 not counting tax and the cost of driving over there to drop it off and pick it up.

I think I need to buy my own tikka action stuff and plan on doing my own barrel removal in the future. It's going to be cheaper to remove my own barrels and mail them somewhere to be threaded.

I toted my kids' 20" 6.5cm with a can, for five days last year, and the extra barrel length and weight of the can up front, kinds make it annoying. Not impossible, but annoying.

Cheaper to mail a barrel by itself to a big shop that threads a lot, like ADCO, than to pay the local guy to do a barreled action.
