Will a 22LR turn a dog?

Really surprised by the number of accounts guys are sharing of coming across wild dogs in the woods. I have to worry more about feral horses than feral dogs. Can't recall ever coming across one in Nevada. Is this more common east of the Mississippi, or is it happening in places like Montana and Idaho too?

Also - are these straight up feral dogs, as in born feral, vs runaways, vs just got loose?
Ones I've dealt with were likely dumped out, or prior generations were. They'll pack up like Yotes, but aren't scared of people, even if one or a few. More dangerous to man than yotes, imo.

Kinda looking for info on a woods defense situation against stray dogs with a 22LR shooting 38 grain HP’s.

Appreciate all the info so far.
If anyone has more info pertaining to the above, I’m still here. Thanks. 😀
Ditch the 38 grain HPs and go with CCI Velocitor 40 grain hollow point, best 22lr out there. Aquila interceptor is another safe bet.

Is there a significant difference between the Velocitor 40 HP and the AE 38 HP?
I only have experience with the AE. It has been accurate and reliable for about 2k rounds through my pistol.

'bout 200fps and comes in a box that rattles in the door pocket.

If you're comfortable with that round, use it, but I've always liked 22s and have taken a tremendous amount of game with them, big and small, the CCI Velocitor was always the best performer as well as the Aquila, and yes, they kill dogs with impunity.
