Greetings.

Just following up on my early December long, unsuccessful story, .270 Win 110 gr bullet for Coyote. This rifle will shoot sub MOA with 130 gr and up so it’s not the rifle. Yeah, I know I can use the 130 gr for Coyote – makes for good Deer practice – but wanted to try a lighter bullet.

Yeah…you’re right…I should have stayed with my .243 W for the upcoming Wiley hunt.

It's a T3x – 22.4” – 1:8 twist. Have considerable “range” but no hunting experience with this particular rifle and an assortment of bullets. .5 MOA and better have been common. Current goal being max accuracy on Coyote out to 500 yards – have narrowed it down to 2 bullets. 87 gr V Max or Sierra 85 gr BTHP. Both have outstanding reps. Will likely use one of the 4350’s.

I apologize, this being my second posting about this rifle. If you wouldn’t mind commenting on which of these 2 bullets you prefer and why, you’ll have my attention and appreciation. Headed to the range tomorrow to test which is most accurate.

Thank you kindly.

Happy Holidays.

For your .243, I would get the 80 ELD-VT. It’ll do more internal damage than the VMax.

Well............

The original plan was to use the .270 for dual purpose deer / coyote. Deer bullets worked - my coyote bullet choices - not so much. Yeah - Raghornklr - I'm likely guilty of overcomplicating. Really, really did want ONE rifle to do both. Didn't work out. Hence the .243 Win purchase which shot OK < nothing to write home about tho.

Spent a LOT of time studying. Stubborn about wanting sub MOA and ONE rifle. Yes, all the 6's and 6.5's were considered. Fine choices. Looked hard at the Tikka CTR and UPR. The 270 & 243 are gone. UPR, 308 Win w/24" bbl in my safe. Chose that cartridge for 2 reasons. 5 Star accuracy and I'm a 30 cal fan.

Currently working with a few 125 gr for coyote this spring. If for any reason they don't work out - I have 150 / 155 gr bullets I know will. Like the 270 was, the 308 is a bit much on coyotes. Don't care. LR shooting? I'm good to 400 now - further as I learn how. Not a damn thing wrong with that either as by BG rifle is a "one hole" 5 shots under a penny 30-06 with 200 gr Accubonds.

Happy New Year everyone. Thanks for the support here.

Cheers!!!

I don’t think you can go wrong with a coyote bullet outside of a FMJ, this year I have shot them with everything from 200 grain ELDX ato a 75 grain “gold saber” just use what your favorite gun likes. If the gun is being finicky load towards the middle of the velocity ranges and see what it does.

See if you can find some 110Vmax for the 308. It is an absolute hammer for varmints and light skinned game.

Bull...I appreciate your comments and suggestion. Will do just that. Thanks. Learned long ago...max or close to max loads are not always the most accurate.

Just to me personally.........it's not all about the cartridge or rifle. It's also about the joy and reward of working with / testing a cartridge / rifle / bullet / powder. I tested / hunted with many of the older and some of the newer cartridges in too many rifles. Loved every minute of it. Learned a lot. After those too many rifles, the 30-06 I mentioned earlier is a joy I trust to hunt BG with. Proven. All personal goals with that rifle have been met! The current project is to work with 1 rifle for Wiley / Deer / range work all with sub-moa accuracy. The UPR is working. The rest is up to me.

Thanks again.

Cheers!

Sierracharlie338...

Thanks for that. Tested those in my '06 with high hopes. 1.5 MOA was the best my rifle and I could produce @ 100. Will take a 2nd look at those in the UPR. Good thought.

Cheers!
