I saw the post about the Bundy's getting off on the charges brought against them for the "camp out" at the wildlife refuge. I thought I would post this here rather than jump in on that post. I'm not saying the Bundy's were guilty or not, I don't know enough about it to be fair.

I'm not sure why but it reminded me of something that happened here about 4 months ago (I said not sure why?)

We had some F@#khead here in Missouri that shot a black bear in his yard. We don't have a bear season in Missouri. He hid the carcass, made up some BS defense, they found him guilty. Here is the beauty part, they fined him $200......I thought $200 shoot that's the cheapest black bear hunt I have ever heard of. I mean what the hell is wrong with the legal system, especially when it comes to protecting wildlife.

$200 probably didn't cover the gas in the wardens trucks to investigate the case.

It just seems like our legal system has run out of common sense.

The jury didn't find innocent. They found them not guilty of the charges brought by the government. There is a charge for what they did. It's call criminal trespass. The government declined to bring those charges- not enough jail time. Remember- that's what started this mess. The Hammond's were charged with terrorism rather than illegal burning, because the government wanted to bring inflated charges, ignoring the spirit of the law, to bring inflated sentences.

So yes...out of common sense.

I agree, a lot about our legal system makes no sense. I could go on for days regarding this subject, but I'll just agree for now.

I talked with a warden here in Nebraska who said that even when he a cut and dried poaching case and the penalties can be huge, judges frequently only give minimal sentences because they aren't outdoorsmen and don't place the same value on this type of crime as they do crimes against persons. He said it's an uphill battle and they frequently try to educate judges so they will understand the importance of big sentences.

agreed, the legal system doesn't get wildlife....or "Drugs"

The drug policy in the US is just crazy with no common sense.

There isn't much differentiation between something like pot vs meth. Drugs like meth, molly, crack, heroin, etc destroys everyone it touches. The dealers of that crap should be slammed with the death sentence for multiple offences [instead Obama just commuted the sentences of 80 of these repeat dealers]

Those hard core drugs not only wreck lives but reek all kinds of havoc on society with crime, medical costs, etc. The dealers responsible need to pay...and pay big....and if they keep it up, they no longer deserve to live in our society.

In a lot of cases, yes. Like charging an elderly women living in the country, with cruelty to animals because she put her dog down in her back yard instead of taking it to the vet.
