Anyone ever harvest and eat wild onions? Any suggestions? Spent a few more days in the Blue mountains and the onions were popping up good, they look good (and are raw) now looking for suggestions on recipes.

Also got a few morels, and my idea now is to sauté the onions and morels and make a side dish, but open to suggestions from those who have eaten the little wild onions.

The leaves of the onions look good too, is that part edible?8B728B0F-9E3F-41BE-A59D-4FF506069EFB.jpeg

Yeah, the greens are edible too. The greens work as a 'vegetable' for stir frys. I like to butter poach the bulbs slow till they're sweet, mash em with blue or gorgonzola cheese and smear over any red meat steak you have.

I picked quite a few this ear. Most common way I ate them was sauteing with my eggs in the morning. Also made a decent amount of pesto to spread on sandwiches or whatever. They were great! Also recommend the butter on red meat.

Just make sure you don’t accidentally pick death camas in the western us.

We have wild leeks here, don't really get that big on the bottom, they are delicious. I like the greens as good as the onion.

I have them all over my back yard. Couple days ago I chopped up a few and threw them in a wok with butter, lemon juice and asparagus as a side for a steak. Pretty dang good.

We ate a few we dug this evening with our ribeyes for Mother’s Day. Sautéed a few with olive oil and my wife mixed some in with mushrooms and asparagus. They were awesome.

thanks for that. I will certainly confirm before eating. I'm pretty sure I have onions, but I appreciate the warning, I'm not sure enough to eat them without checking ID. Ate some on the mountain, but not much.

didn't know there was a dangerous look alike

When you find wild onions in the spring, remember the location for a future spring bear hunt. In my area the bears love the onions and will often spend days in a big patch of them.

I mixed some chopped wild onion in salisbury steaks a few weeks ago- nice addition to a good meal.
