Wondering if anyone has some recommendations for a good waterproof mid boot/shoe for hiking and walking in shallow snow.

We live in Nebraska but head out hiking in Colorado a few times a year, she also runs a lot, but once winter hits she is stuck in the gym or at home. She is looking for something she can do some good hikes in and also have good traction and waterproof for some flatland walking once it starts snowing.

Thanks for any recommendations. We will be in Denver this weekend looking to get her something before we do some more hikes (she will probably hike in her tennis shoes this time or at least take them so she doesn't blister with new shoes)

My girlfriend fought with a pair of asolo for 2 years. Like clockwork, a mile in, wed have both boots off and putting lukotape on her heels. she finally caved and bought Solomon 4d. She hasn’t had an issue since.

REI hiking boot with gators. They have women’s lowa renegades or what ever fits and gators

My wife wears the Crispi Summit GTX and loves them. Started with hikes early last year and then through elk season with zero issues. But the real answer is trying multiple options until you find the right fit for her and not everyone else although options/suggestions are helpful.

Lots of experience with boots of different constructions and price points here in the midwest (and out west) and if you want any sort of longevity with respect to waterproofness you should get a single piece smooth leather upper. Then when the Goretex shits the bed (and it will eventually) you can use Nikwax to maintain. I've had great luck with Asolo's myself but feet are so personal what works for me may not work for her. My feet hate Solomon's for example. My best advise is to buy something like I've described above in a brand that fits her feet, and if she doesn't like it try another brand as they all can fit a little differently. When she finds something she likes and is proven be ready to swoop in and buy a few extra pairs if they ever get discontinued.

I've also had good luck swapping factory insoles for Superfeet or Lathrop & Sons.

Thanks guys,

Dos -good advice on the leather younger, and I live by what you say on buying extras when you find what you like! I've had 2 different boots and 3 lines of arrows discontinued once I really got them working good! Now the first thing I do when I find something I like is go buy extras!
