Wickiup Hoody – MTN HNTR’s Purpose-Built Base Layer

I always appreciate a hot weather candidate to try...

Has anyone used one of these, and I'm asking for actual use, meaning minimum 3-5 shooting/backpacking days per week in high summer temps?

I have yet to find a synthetic hoody that isn't stunk out after day 2 of rucking/shooting in the summer here in AZ. Think overnight LOW temps of 80 degrees.

To contrast, I can wear the same lightweight merino hoody Monday-Saturday, only needing to wash and then hang to dry on Sunday for the next week of use.

How is this unit holding up in the aforementioned use case?

The issue with merino is everything here in the desert sticks to it, badly. So I have to get more creative than I'd like with shooting locations at some of my shooting spots. I was wondering if this piece is less prone to sticking, meaning I can brush off stickers/thorns versus them getting embedded further into the garment?

Also, the lack of half zip for dumping heat is a bit baffling to me.

Thumb loops are fantastic for keeping 110+ degree sun off the backs of your palms.

These two would be good features to bring into a "2.0" of this piece in my opinion.
A zone opens next weekend I’ll let you know, but stickers wise it’s soft and thin I dont anticipate it being any better than merino in that regard. Stink wise that is TBD, mine smells like fish after fishing in it for 4 or 5 days 😂

Comfort wise the bamboo material is so freaking soft and comfy..if you’ve ever had bamboo sheets it feels like that on the skin. From a comfort standpoint I’m happy with paying full price for mine even as a casual wear/camp piece although I fully plan to put it through the paces hunting this year as the fabric weight/thickness/coolness is about perfect IMO.

Great suggestions - I didn't add a half-zip but may in another garment. I personally feel like zippers add another dimension, feel, and stickiness to a shirt sometimes, but we've been playing around with a few different options.

I don't know if you can beat Merino in AZ - merino is so good when you know you're sweating all day and night and never dry out. I think a synthetic excels when you have more varied temps and want it to dry like conditions we see in the intermountain west -- It's hard to find the perfect fabric for every condition.

I have one coming from @Nine Banger so I’ll give it a rip when I’m back from Northern California in a couple weeks and report back.

So I bought a Wikiup hoodie probably a month or so ago. I wanted to give a quick little review for anyone else interested.

Mine took I think 8 days to ship to north Idaho. Felt reasonable. I got a large, I’m 6’ 190 pounds, pretty lean with wide shoulders. It fits great other than it’s pretty dang long, longer than I thought it would be. Just beware, if you are short perhaps size down. It’s very soft, it may be the most comfortable non cotton shirt against the skin I’ve ever had. It’s not clammy like shirts that are almost all poly. It dries in a couple hours no problem. The air goes right through it, but it’s not so thin that you feel like you have no shirt either. I’ve worn it 10 days so far all day, ( 2-3 days between washing) and it hasn’t smelled that bad other than it really held in campfire smoke. The hood is a nice shape too.

My only really complaint is that the shoulder seams are strange, they poke up a bit as though it was hung by clothespins. Washing it didn’t help. I’m hoping with a lot of wear the fabric relaxes a bit.

I’m not super big on the camo color scheme, but I still really like the hoody and if it comes out in solid green I’ll buy one same day.

I wore the hoodie a bunch on a recent trip to Nevada and it was HOT. It is super soft against the skin and easily the most comfortable sun shirt I've worn.

It did collect a ton of stickers from glassing in the cheat grass. My hunting partner said the light color of the camo made me stand out at incredible distances.

I would definitely buy another in a darker color.
