Wickiup Hoody – MTN HNTR’s Purpose-Built Base Layer

Ordered one, I love this style of hoodie. Will report back my thoughts and comparisons to the goHUNT version, Kuiu synthetic and Kuiu merino versions.
The GoHunt stinks FAST! That part was disappointing. I also feel it’s too heavy for true early season.

Can you say anything yet about the weight of this hoody compared to GoHunt and Kuiu? I’m going to guess you’ve got the Kuiu Gila.

I like the faded color of this hoody.

Mine is still in the mail but I will let you know on that.

I have the gila and also the merino version. Wore the gila for basically two days straight in Nevada last weekend 100 degree temps and it didn’t stink too bad.

That’s good to hear. I’ve got the Gila but have only worn it for day outings fishing and looking for bears. Mine had a glossy sheen I didn’t like.

My go to is Sitka core crew light. LOVE that thing but I’m always looking.

You'll find this hoody has a little different feel than the Poly/Spandex blends that GoHunt and Kuiu use on the above mentioned garments. The Rayon softens and adds a bit more breathability. It's also truly lightweight - I know the feel of a lot of the 100% polyesters (or close with spandex) don't feel as breathable to me and seem to feel a little more "clammy." Anyhow - for those who've ordered, I'm very interested in your feedback. It's been very positive to this point from our team and others who have tried it.

How is the fit/sizing? Similar to GOHUNT and kuiu? And would you know the weight of a large? I’d like to try one but wanted to know before ordering. Also would there happen to be a rokslide discount?

Thanks for your help!

I haven't tried the GoHunt, but as far as kuiu, sitka, etc, the sizing is very close, we designed this to be a little bit longer than most T-shirts so there's enough length in the torso. The size Large is 7.9 ounces. Use code "rokslide" on any product at MTNHNTR.com.

Got mine in and have been running around with it today.

Super soft and comfortable next to skin.

Very light and thin (good thing). Similar to Kuiu but breathes a little better, much thinner than the goHUNT.

Fit is good, similar to the Kuiu. The goHUNT fits more snug.

Will get this one and the Kuiu wet and see how quickly they dry out.

So far loving it, incredibly comfy and IMO about perfect for fabric weight on this kind of shirt

Thanks for the feedback and comparisons. Appreciate the support as well.

Just ordered one. Anything in a gray, kind of faded FDE or olive drab is hard for me to turn down.

That lighter looked pretty good as well. Didn’t see it until after three order but that is probably going to happen as well.

Scouting trip went well. It was 40’s in the morning to 80’s during the day. It breaths better than my kuiu merino. Very soft and comfortable. And lo and behold I was in a hurry to get the spotter on what I needed it before a buck left and went of of sight. That dang chest pocket came in handy for my phone.

I always appreciate a hot weather candidate to try...

Has anyone used one of these, and I'm asking for actual use, meaning minimum 3-5 shooting/backpacking days per week in high summer temps?

I have yet to find a synthetic hoody that isn't stunk out after day 2 of rucking/shooting in the summer here in AZ. Think overnight LOW temps of 80 degrees.

To contrast, I can wear the same lightweight merino hoody Monday-Saturday, only needing to wash and then hang to dry on Sunday for the next week of use.

How is this unit holding up in the aforementioned use case?

The issue with merino is everything here in the desert sticks to it, badly. So I have to get more creative than I'd like with shooting locations at some of my shooting spots. I was wondering if this piece is less prone to sticking, meaning I can brush off stickers/thorns versus them getting embedded further into the garment?

Also, the lack of half zip for dumping heat is a bit baffling to me.

Thumb loops are fantastic for keeping 110+ degree sun off the backs of your palms.

These two would be good features to bring into a "2.0" of this piece in my opinion.

It has loops. They are more like a ribbon. Different fabric.

Ill send you my L if you want to try it. Its tight in the arms for me. Cut for slender builds? I've only put it on a couple times to see if I could live with it or not.

Maybe trade me some 22 creed brass...
