If you want to convince those buddies, have them go in on a drop camp... aka lazy man backcountry. Also, there have been places I’m into elk within 200 yards of the truck. The worst that happens is you spend a beautiful week up in the mountains while the leaves are changing and the air is crisp.

That’s a really good idea. I also have several friends who are very into backpacking but none of them hunt (but are not against it or anything). I’m thinking about just asking them to come along for the company and their backpacking skills.
