@BLJ the purpose of doing them is to avoid the felony for not having the stamp.
As stated above multiple times, the ONLY thing that changed in the process was the cost. EVERYTHING else is still required... for now.

What’s the purpose of the photo and fingerprinting?

It is a requirement on the form. While they call it a tax stamp, it is a license to buy a single suppressor since you have to do it for every suppressor purchased even if you buy multiple at once. As far as I know, they run your photo and prints through the system to check you for wants and warrants plus any priors. I don't work for the ATF nor did I make the form so I could be wrong.

Because of the NFA. If the NFA was repealed, all this stupid shit goes away... Firearms are protected under the 2nd amendment while NFA items are not and have special hoops to jump through to purchase.

I’m guessing you clicked ship after Jan 1? The guys at the shop have started hammering away at those. It’s very time consuming contacting your SOT’s individually and doing the form 3’s. They’re doing the best they can. Whatever hasn’t shipped yet, will ship soon. They’re absolutely awesome cans as you know, just don’t have 30 employees to do this stuff. Yet. Lol

Would you shoot without protection if every shot made you a little bit blind? Maybe a permanent welders flash from the muzzle blast that created flares in your vision that never went away?

Hate to break it to everyone, but silencer shop alone (allegedly) had 1.2mil suppressors held for this morning to be submitted. Add all of the big box and local shops' cans that were held until January 1st, and all of the cans that will be purchased in the next 2 weeks, and I'm guessing most folks won't see their cans for a very very long time.
