Anyone use a Ranger rangefinder? I’ve heard they have had issues with fog and reading yardage in shadows. What day you?

I have a 1500, I think it’s about 3 years old. It’s been solid so far, especially for the price on Experticity. I can hit trees like this at about 1000 no problem. I plan on using it until I can afford a set of the zeiss victory binos.

I’ve had the 1500 for a few years and haven’t experienced the issues you described

I have the cheapest rangefinder they offer (impact 850). Excellent for turkey hunting/ranging targets at the range but the reticle could be brighter in low light. When hunting big game I often find myself wishing a had a higher end rangefinder (longer distance, better illuminated reticle). Other than that it's a pretty good product especially if you can find one used but I don't think I'd recommend it at retail.
Keep in mind that most companies, even companies that have similar warranties to vortex, usually exclude or limit the warranty to rangefinders. That was a deciding factor in my choice when buying.
Hope that helped some

I bought a new Ranger 1300 last year for my 1st elk hunt. It worked around the house outside but on day one of the hunt, we saw a herd of maybe 100 elk. The farthest was 700 yrds with the closest at 450 yrds. My ranger wouldn't pick up nothing. Not even a hay bale at 75 yrds. Other guys with different ranger finders were ranging no problem.Next day same thing but I could range a tree at 100 yrds. ticked me off. Got home and Vortex sent me a new one. It works around the house, like the other one but have yet to give it a try out West. It was foggy those mornings but nothing that i thought should have stopped it from ranging. I changed to another new battery as well and it didn't help..

i've had issues with the ranger 1000 on foggy mornings. kind of thought it was just par for the course with rangefinders but this has me rethinking.
