Who to use for rebarreling?

My son’s rifle needs rebarreling. It’s an older Ruger M77 Tanger. Has sentimental value so he wants to hang onto it but give it new life. .243 barrel is just about toast, has pretty bad throat erosion and he’s ready for more. Gonna go .308 and keep it simple.

Hart won’t return phone or email inquiries apparently, and PacNor (whom I’ve used successfully before) takes forever. Who else can I ship barreled action to for the complete job? Want it to match existing factory sporter contour. No local smiths near me that I trust.

Sounds like your question is more of “who will dupe a factory Ruger contour?”.

Lots of smiths will thread and chamber a barrel, but much less of them will turn down a barrel.

Lilja looks to make barrels with Ruger m77 contours. But the wait might be more than you like. And then you’d need a smith.

Pacnor is a one stop shop for such things.

I’m not aware of other “one stop shops” in the NW.

Preferred barrels seems to get good reviews.
They sell barrels and blanks. I want someone to contour the barrel to match existing, cut the chamber, true the action and install it. One stop shop.

Correct one stop shop is what I’m looking for. PacNor and Hart are the ones I’m aware of that do this type of work and they both have issues. Is there anyone else similar?

I would call Douglas barrels and have them send me a Ruger contoured barrel. Then ship it off to Shaen Rifles.

No one ever mentions Douglas. Good barrels.

I also use a bunch of Douglas barrels and have had nothing but good luck! All mine shoot great!

Any good smith should be able to do the re barrel.

Another vote for Shaen Rifles - he is fantastic to work with and his turn around times are usually really quick.
I have 2 barreled actions with him now to get shortened and threaded. Looking forward to seeing his work, I’ve heard nothing but good about it over the years.

I second Lawnboi, Chad at LRI will make you anything you want, and it will be perfect.

You will be pleased thats for sure. Not sure what he does when he chambers a new barrel but he certainly has some magic pixie dust he uses or something because his stuff just shoots and the detail is always perfect.
Always a fun day when a box shows up with this in it:)
