Squids, Jarheads, Ground Pounders and Zoomies...What about the Puddle Pirates? The legendary Shallow Water Sailors? You know, the guys who's only shallow water sailing they did was in the tub with yer ol'e ladies? You know the guys that drove the best landing craft for Normandy, landed Jarheads and saved them, underfire, at Guadalcanal. Running the 82ft brown water patrol boats in VietNam. Pretty much we ended up in all the wars since 1790. That's right..even Afganistan. Crazy right? Little known and we love it!!
You all got a Coastie on this site...USCG 1989-2009 a BM2 qualified Surfman-WW

ps...I"m dying to see a Space Force guy pull his head off the XBox and speak up LOL
Another Coastie here. I never could convince the squids the Bering Sea doesn’t really fit the shallow waters model.

‘16-present, Army Environmental Science Officer. I did one humanitarian mission and one deployment (Iraq) where I mostly tried to keep Marines from eating paint chips and 11Bravos from playing with scorpions.

Thank you all for your service.

My son goes into the Navy to become a rescue swimmer in November. He signed his contract a few weeks ago.

Started out with the Pershing 1A Nuclear Missile 56th FA Brigade in West Germany, at 19 years old it wasn't exciting enough for me, read an article about the EOD guys, and decided it was something I'd like to do. Volunteered and got accepted in 1981. Spent most of my time traveling on TDY orders all over the place. Last duty station was in Vicenza Italy
