Who Scouts with a Dog?

That’s good advice on watching out for porcupines. My dog seems to find every one. She must be learning some, because the last porky she found she only ended up with half a dozen quills in the muzzle.

Pretty excited about my new dog. He’s an American bulldog and smart as hell. He is super vigilant about watching what I’m doing and wants nothing more than to please. Very calm and confident as well.
I have been taking him scouting and training with a e-collar, body language and hand signals. So far he has been excellent. We worked him on rabbits a couple weeks ago and he picked it up immediately. He is basically my shadow. I also am working on training him with a harness to pack a few things. Only issue is that he only listens to me and not my wife

Do our best to get the pups out, black one can spot game like no other, doesn’t bark, and listens decently. Brown one likes the hikes and fishing. Black dog does chase but only on approval/command (sounds bad but sometimes geese and deer are needed to be chased out of fields out of hunting season).

 

[Mountain Dog]

Just got a new pup and wondered if anyone has experience elk/deer scouting with their dog? I'd love to take her, but not sure if her scent/presence in the woods will do more harm than good for the area I plan on hunting next year? She will be trained not to chase ungulates.

I have with mine.
Problem is deer poo is one of his favorite snacks.
