Looking to hear from people who have shot a moose with a mechanical broadhead. Curious how it performed and what model it was.

I know people recommend fixed blade, but I am interested in hearing how mechanicals have worked for people.

I’ve killed several moose with fixed, but this year I used a 100gr Grim Reaper Razortip mechanical. It performed exceptionally well on a broadside shot that clipped the ribs. Arrow penetrated to the flecthings and then fell out as he ran. He probably made it 50 yards?

When I got my CO moose tag 5 years ago, most people said to use a fixed head. But I really wanted to try one of my GR Fatal Steel heads. So when I shot my moose quartering away at 53 yards, I used a 125gr Exodus. The bull ran about 30 yards and then laid down in some heavy buck brush, I knew it was a good hit. He laid down about 40 yards from me. My two buddies were about 200 yards away so took them a minute or two to show up.

While we were talking, the bull stood up. So I grabbed an arrow with a 125gr Fatal Steel and shot him square through both lungs. He wobbled a bit for a second then fell straight over face first and was done. My 30" arrow buried to the fletching and the BH stuck in an offside rib. It also broke a rib going in. The first arrow made it all the way through him, but was hung up at the fletching on the offside. He was laying on it when we flipped him over to break down the other side.
