Whitetail Stand Jacket

I'm in the same basic climate as you and do some treestand sitting about half the time. I can not stand cold or bulk and have spent quite a bit of effort trying to figure out what keeps me warm without feeling bulky and heavy.

I got the Pnuma heated layers and wear them next to skin along with some heated socks. I wear a very light mid layer over those if its at the bottom end of temp range. I wear the Stratus down to about 40 degrees. Any lower than that, I get into the Fanatic. If you minimize mid layers, it isnt too bulky. I add in a neck gaiter and good hat (game changer) and I'm good to go for sitting.

It looks like you're already pretty packed into that Stratus with all the layers. The Pnuma was pricey but completely worth it and negates the extra layers. The Fanatic won't be anymore bulky than what you are already wearing.
My brother got the Pnuma heated gear. Another option for sure. I like that idea for stand hunts that are no more than 3-4 hours.

I grabbed a Huntworth jacket last year. I can't recall exactly which model but it doesn't have a hood because I don't like them.

Standing on a snowy PA morning with 20 mile an hour winds in my face without a ton under it, a UA shirt and a light fleece vest, I was considering venting heat when the deer showed up and ended the hunt.

I'd be curious to know which jacket. Still good for archery? How does it compare to the bigger names like sitka?

Pulled it out of the closet to look closely. It's a Matterhorn in Tarnen pattern.

I'd want an arm guard for archery to compress it but I do that with anything more than a light to intermediate hoody. Having a windproof membrane, it has a little rustle with movement but I think that's pretty unavoidable.

Can't compare to Sitka because I'm a po boy and can't afford that fancy stuff. Definitely better than the Nomad/Redhead stuff I replaced with it.

Kuiu Proximity, I froze in my sitka stratus in like ht 40s with layers. I can wear my proximity with a basic fleece in the 40s easily and change out the fleece layer and get into the low 30s, add a puffy vest and im sitting good in the 20s.

Just get the fanatic and be done w it. I wear it with a core lightweight, and another thin layer and I’m perfectly comfortable into the teens in a tree stand. Take your walk in slow, or carry it in. But I tell everyone I get the chance that the fanatic jacket is the best money I’ve ever spent

I picked up the pnuma vintis at the beginning of this season. I'm in sw wi, strictly stand hunt whitetail, late October and early November were warm mid 40 to low 50. The jacket was way too much for that. But later it did get cold, low 20, and I was very comfortable with a heavy base layer and a cheap vest. Very quiet, lots of pockets, I'm happy with it.
I did the same, was looking for a jacket with more insulation than the Stratus but not as bulky as the Fanatic. The Vintis seemed to fill this role really well.

I’ve got a Kuiu proximity jacket as well as their super down haven. The haven is exponentially warmer for me. It doesn’t pack down well so I just strap it to my pack while walking in. I’ve been in the teens with that (with appropriate other layers) and been comfortable

How many other layers were you wearing with the super down haven? Do you have other garments to compare it to, other than the proximity?

I don’t recall specifically, but usually a merino base layer, a mid layer and the haven jacket. Maybe had a fleece under it?

Again don’t remember specifics but it wasn’t anything off the wall

Thanks for checking. Looks like a warm jacket in the reviews I saw. The Warren looked a little less bulky and more bowhunter friendly.

I'm usually a buy once cry once type of person but I haven't been able to bring myself to spend that kind of coin yet. I guess I'm trying to validate it in my mind and make sure it's not just marketing hype.

The Super Haven looks really warm. An expensive option for sure but I like the idea of a quiet faced down.

You can almost always get it for around $280. Someone will be able to get you a code. It’s well worth that to me. I think I know 5 people with it now and no complaints

Also it’s not marketed for it, but I’ve hunted in a rainstorm in it before and stayed bone dry

I’ve been pretty happy with my FL Solitude for a cold weather stand jacket for a few years. Planned on the fanatic, and just can’t get in to the fleece with the burrs and briars around here.

29 this morning. Had peloton 97, 200, ambient, Solitude up top.

Kiln base, gradient pant, stratus bibs bottom. Hoffman pacs, Kuiu heavy beanie, FL neck gaiter on and was comfortable for the day. I do pack the outer layer in, bibs on, vents all the way open. Staying dry is key.

I love my IWOM. Lots of arguments against it, maybe a few are even valid, but when it comes to being out of the elements while being in the elements, nothing I have tried even comes close.

Biggest complaints:

1. Noise. Non-issue for me with the newest fabric. Its a standard brushed finish. No issues down to single digits, which is the coldest I've had it.

2. Bulk. This one never made sense to me. Look at a guy with enough layers to stay warm in cold conditions, and I doubt you will pick IWOM as the bulky option.

3. Foot containment. I get this one. Not my choice for tiny platforms, and saddle hunting requires dedication and modification. Regular climbing stands are no problem, and its the best thing since sliced bread on the ground.

No leak points, handwarmers heat up your whole envelope, and the price is way less than any equivalent layering system. Packs up smaller than my parka and bibs, and I don't need boot blankets, gloves, or any other accessories. Works in warmer temps as well. Sat this Tuesday at 40°F with rain, wind, and sleet in street clothes and tennis shoes.

Articl Shield is not even close in form or function.

Heater Body Suit is just as warm or warmer, but I prefer a leg envelope and free arms over an upper body envelope and free legs. Personal preference there. HBS might be a touch quieter as well, but is not even close to as weatherproof as the IWOM.

Anyway, not what you asked about, but maybe an option to sort of consider. It took me six years to finally buy one, and now I just wish I had started with it instead of going up the cost ladder with layering systems.
