Last year I was given a White muzzleloader '95 elk foundation Bison model in .54 caliber

Been doing some research and had seen doc white passed away August 2022.

Was looking for any advice or experience with these rifles, I have located some of their conical bullets that were made for the barrels they did and will be getting them coming soon. Unsure of powders to use as well as patch or no. I have not shot the rifle at all, but looks very clean and either rarely was ever shot or was well taken care of.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I did just find this, Google worked better than the on-site search

Just got off the phone with Marlow about an hour ago and bought the last of the .539 cal bullets he had(only 2 boxes) and got to pick his brain a bit. Will wait for these bullets to get here and see about getting out and playing with some charges and see how it does. He had mentioned these rifles or bullets were made to shoot well with the white made bullet, no wad, with pyrodex p. Obviously other powders out there, but will try some of that 1st then maybe explore other powders.

Sound slike he plans to start producing the bullets again in the near future.

I've been hunting with a White 98+ (209 Thunderbolt converted to #11's) for many years. It's a .451 cal, and it's favorite load is 96 grains of Pyrodex P under a 460 grain No Excuses conical. Accurate and deadly.
If you can find a copy of Doc's book The White Muzzleloading System it'll give you a lot of solid information.
Whites are the finest front loaders for whitetail hunting that I've ever used.

I have the Bison in .54 cal as well. I could not find a more accurate shooter. I shoot the No Excuses 525 grain conicals pushed by 85 grains of Swiss black powder with a wool wad. I fatten my conicals up a little bit by knurling the between two files. Helps grab the rifling a little better.

I recieved a very clean 54 caliber white bison rockey mountain elk foundation back in 2020. I contacted Doc and he told me they donated about 25 muzzleloaders to the rockey mountain elk foundation and only a few were 54 caliber. He said its a rare muzzleloader. I'd be interested in knowing how many were 54 caliber. I still have his email.
