To all of you who comment that the sentencing is too light and they should never be able to hunt again:
These guys you are talking about (friends of mine) are genuinely good people. They do (or did) more to take care of these resources than anyone I know and are now being punished for something that was at worst an honest mistake. I promise you none of y’all know the full story and if you did you would realize how awful the system can be when given the opportunity. The articles you read are really quite maddening when you know the whole story.
There was never a win in this situation just a lesser of two losses. Hence, the guilty pleas. No individual has the time, money, or sanity to fight a federal lawsuit. At some point you have to cut your losses, and unfortunately for my friends they now have to forfeit their rights to do the things that they dedicated their life to and enjoyed more than most people could ever understand. This was their livelihood and they worked in this business day in and day out for many decades.
The sad part to me is that so many real game violations occur and are missed all together, then honest guys like Mike and Jerrod have their lives turned upside down.
My point is that you should probably know the full story before chiming in with negative input. Especially if you put it into perspective that this could happen to any one of us (if we could draw a sheep tag that is).
