Which youth LEFTY rifle?

Dragging my thread back up. Getting ready to pull the trigger on a savage axis II lefty compact. The Pro comes with a heavier 20" barrell cerakoted and threaded but is 6.7 lbs. The model down is about $100 cheaper, blued and not threaded but 6.3 lbs, which is Tikka light territory. I could buy the cheaper one and have it cut to 18" and be spending about the same. Pro would be easier but I worry 6.7 lbs is a little stout for a youth? Any opinions?

This is like a year old reply, but for those who might pick it up...

I have an axis pro 2 compact. It's a nice rifle, some mag issues to start but Savage provided a warranty replacement that cured the problem. I would say that it is a little front heavy, a smaller kid is gonna probably be a little unsteady with it. The stock is a nice length. Balance would be better cut at 16". Mag is hard to load, a kid will struggle with it. Bolt lift is heavy, typical of Savage. Mine is a 6 ARC, good accuracy. The trigger adjusts to a reasonable pull, the accu-trigger blade is silly but easy to remove.

I have issues when my two kids rifles get dirty and i physically cannot close the bolt. And Im a big guy: 6'1" and 250lbs.

As I said in my earlier post, I got a Desh Industries bolt lift kit and the m*carbo trigger springs.

And while the Desh certainly helps, after a box or so of ammo, i physically cannot close the bolt! I have to come home and clean it and then it runs fine.....for another 20-30 rounds.

Ive never seen anything like it.

But they were $125/each, so I can live with cleaning it after every shooting session.

Hmm...must be something to do with the 350L chamber. Mine is a 6ARC, no problems chambering rounds. Have you contacted Savage? That would be hard to tolerate.

Good summary. It's a sweet little gun. I believe they offer a composite magazine now. I might try that

From what I hear, it gets better over time.

Again, I can clean it after each time firing it.
