Which Tikka should I buy?

In the market for a new Tikka rifle. Caliber will either be .308 or 7mm 08, probably .308 just due to more options on both the gun and ammo.
Rifle will be used for eastern elevated stand hunting. Longest walk I have to a stand is fifteen minutes, so I’m not overly concerned with weight. Much more concerned with accuracy. I’ll probably make two to three range trips a year, and then hunt with it. Budget is up to 1800.00.
The only real sticking point I have is I hate the black Tupperware stock on the basic Tikka rifle, which I can replace with an aftermarket stock.

Which model do I want?

A T3x CTR in a KRG Bravo will run you about $1690 brand new. I found my bravo and CTR used on tacswap and snipershide and put it together for about $1200. It shoots very well with factory ammo. The T3x lite 308 is on UM(when in stock) for $769. That plus a bravo puts you at $1169 leaves plenty left over for a rail and ammo.

You can get a Lite in .308 for $629 from EuroOptic. If you call up Jake and mention RokSlide, he might get you a slightly better deal.

Throw on a Trijicon 3-9x40 Accupoint for another $629. Or find a secondhand SWFA 3-9x40 for another $600 or 6x for $300-400 (they are sold out at SWFA, but come up on the classifieds).

Add a great set of rings for ~$100 and you are looking at $500-600 leftover for your aftermarket stock.

You could also consider the Sauer 100 for $429 in 6.5 CM or $549 in .308. Doesn’t have the same aftermarket support as the Tikka, but you might be pleasantly surprised by the stock. I’m very happy with the wooden stocked one I got for $600 (they are $649 right now).

Is the cost difference in the CTR vs T3x lite worth it?

I would go with the ctr for what your doing the weight will make it much easier to shoot. I have a ctr in a 6.5 creedmore and it is super easy to shoot and very accurate. Heavy is the way if you are not packing it very far.

Stainless T3X Lite in 6.5 Creed. Grab a take-off Roughtec stock off the classifieds here. Or a KRG Bravo if a heavier platform suites you (concerts you to AICS magazines). Make sure to upgrade to the vertical grip.

You’ll have a better rifle than either of the two calibers listed, and you’ll be ready for expanding your use cases if you ever want to.
