Which puffy to get?

For November, I absolutely love the First Lite Chamberlain. I have Kuiu, Marmot, Black Ovis, North face, etc... And nothing compares to the Chamberlain for warmth.

Just saw yesterday that OV just came out with another down coat that’s lighter than there other one.

I’ve always been partial to a brand called Gerry. Every bit as warm as some costing 3-4 times the price. For about 60 bucks you can get a really warm jacket that will last you many years.

I really like my SKRE puffy. I know there are better ones out there and I may buy one someday but I really like my SKRE.

I just ordered the new "Zulu" from Outdoor Vitals. It will replace my Stone Glacier Grumman Lite that doesn't quite fit me right. I love their Vantage Pro down coat I got last fall. Wear it more than I should frankly. Hasn't been cold enough this winter to wear it alot, yet I still do because I love how it feels.

I bought my wife an Outdoor Vitals Nova Pro for Christmas on a whim. She has a tendency to be "cheap" or "frugal" with clothes, so I kind of snuck it into her Christmas stuff. She absolutely loves it. Looks so nice and it is reportedly very comfortable. Quickly becoming fans of the products OV is putting in the market.

Anyway, I think the Zulu will fit my needs for the vast majority of the time.

OV puffies have been exceptional in my limited experience… I have had the Kuiu and the Grumman but kept my ov nova pro and just got the vantage that EXO helped redesign. The nova pro is remarkably warm and the pit zips let you dump some heat when needed. Their pricing is pretty good as far as puffers go as well.

I’ll second this. I have a montbell upland and it was a good compromise of weight/warmth/price. 19oz, 7.1 oz fill weight and got it to my door for $220 CAD. Room to layer under and fits true to size. Used it for a mule deer and whitetail hunt in November in SK. Hiked in and put it on as an outer layer for sitting for a couple hours. Temps were -5 to -25 Celsius. The latter temp was pushing it and I was thankful when I shot a deer and could get moving.

REI’s Stormhenge line is pretty great for the price. Sitka Kelvin Windstopper is probably the standard none can replicate. For packability - the Grumman and Superdown Pro are the best. I’ve been impressed with Outdoor Vitals Vantage Jacket - the no-stitch baffling makes a big difference with wind and the allied down is superior to the other options out there.

There is a new late-season/cold weather treated down puffy that will hit the market later this year that is very, very good. A few changes will be made from the prototype I wore for 4 days, but even in it's current configuration it is a winner. It is warm enough that walking more than ~100 yds in it will cause you to sweat and/or start opening vents on your pants to dump heat. The front zippers are laid out to allow you access to your bino harness/chest pockets on inner layers, the kangaroo pocket is large enough to hold misc items + your gloved hands, and the hood is designed in a manner that lays 'closed' when not in use, keeping snow and debris out of the hood and off your neck. It will be sized to go over all of your layers (incl bino harness) without being tight.

I prefer the Super Down Pros over the Grummans. They’re similar in warm but the SDP are a tougher fabric in high wear areas and have held up much better in long term use. Which I think is underrated in puffy pants that by nature are more likely to encounter brush, rocks, etc. than a puffy jacket. But neither are as warm as the Sitka Hyperdowns. The material on the Hyperdowns is somewhere in between the Kuiu and SG.

I cant speak to any other brands as those are the three I own but the Sitkas would be my recommendation specifically for extreme cold.
