Which Primers for 204 Ruger

My Son brought me all the components to reload some 204 Ruger for him. The primers he brought were Rem.6 1/2, none of my manuals call for them? Most call for either Rem. 71/2, Fed 205m, or CCI 400? The Rem 6 1/2 & the CCI 400 are in about the same class, so can the Rem 6 1/2 be substituted? Anyone with advice or experience loading the 204 with Rem. 6 1/2?

Remington 6 1/2 are for the 22 hornet, not recommended for 204. I haven’t tried them so can’t say what would happen, I just know Remington doesn’t recommend using them in that application.

You’ll risk pierced primers/blowback with 6.5’s and 205’s. Rem 7.5’s, WSR’s and CCI450’s have the thicker cup you’ll need for the 204
