I used a Just One for three years. It is very heavy to even think about using for a day pack. i literally having bruised shoulders from the straps digging into my shoulders with a heavy load. I researched packs for 6 months. My bikini/ nomad shipping confirmation was sent Friday and I should have it by Tuesday...yippee! I thought hard about the Exo and it looks solid but I wanted something with a solid track record for my hunts this fall. If you plan to go backcountry hunting every year I would spend the extra coin if you have it and get a SG, Exo, or Kifaru.

The Kifaru DT2 $670ish with Bikini frame: , EXO 5500 with frame: $500ish, Kuiu Icon Pro 5200: $425ish. Those are some rough pricing without adding anything. Eberlestock Just One a lot cheaper, but not in the same caliber of these. This is going to be tougher than I originally thought.

IF you can, try each one with weight, 40 or so pounds. Buy the one that feels the best to you! It will probably not be the eberlestock:)

After reading your experience with the Just One I am eliminating it. Thanks for the feedback.

Keep in mind the Exo is roughly 1500 larger than the name suggests. The 3500 is 3500 main bag and lid, plus roughly 1500 in side pockets and stretchy front pouch. The 3500 compares more closely in size to the others you've just listed, and retails at 450.

Ryan, theres no way I can try any of them except the Eberlestock and Tenzing. Marc is bringing his EXO and his Kifaru for me to try. My Eberlestock and Tenzing I sell won't be going on my hunting trip this fall!!

When are you guys getting together in Green Bay? I live in Milwaukee, and I have a place up in that neck of the woods. I could bring a Kifaru BHC7000 & a KU3700? PM me...

I just came home from a backpack sheep hunt. I used the new Kifaru EMR2. I was packed for 5 days and had some room to spare but not tons of extra room. I think most people way underestimate the cubic inches they need for a hunt.

I was using the Kifaru Highcamp 4800 and its good also.

I find most packs are fine with 40lbs but the "high end packs" worth really shines when you start packing animals out. If possible try the packs with 35-40 lbs and then more than 70lbs, this is where you will see your extra money going... that and the customer service that comes with Kifura, stone glacier, exo and paradox.

I can agree with that. But I can put on a pack with 40 pounds and tell if I like it pretty quick. I don't like any packs with over 70:)

My only input is I'd rather hunt with a $700 backpack and $300 rifle than a $300 backpack and a $700 rifle. That is all....

Well said!

If you want to test out the packs with heavy weight when you get togather, fill them with water. Water is a very heavy unstable load and it will exaggerate the short comings of the packs in a short distance, even on pavement.

What are the thoughts on the kifaru Nomad? I'll have a base camp and be spiking in for about 3-4 days at a time so don't need anything that would be for long extended stays.

The Nomad is probably the most versatile pack on the market today. I have only used it on a short spring bear hunt and a few other short trips so far and I haven't packed meat with it yet. If you are used to a more traditional pack, it will take some getting used to though. At least it did for me. But now that I have it figured out, I like it a lot. I think it would serve you well.

I ordered a EXO 3500 so I can get one to try/have in time for my hunt. I like the 30 return policy that they have. Thinking of ordering a Kifaru DT2 Bikini to compare side by side. Another decision to make.

Well I guess you don't really need to see mine now but it sounds like a rokslide party in Wisconsin! I will still be bringing my packs and will spend time in both Green Bay and Portage. Oh and I am bringing yuengling with me!

Marc, I still want to look at your pack. I ordered one now so I would have it in August. I didn't want to risk not having a good pack for my hunt. This will also give me time to see if I like it and if not I can send it back. Like I said, thinking of ordering a kifaru after I look at yours. Thinking of the DT2, smaller than yours but should be plenty big enough for me.
