Which Hornady Ammo for Deer?

Going on an Axis deer hunt in a few weeks. My rifle is a 7PRC with a 20” barrel/muzzle brake. I’ll be using factory Hornady ammo, and can’t decide between the 175gr ELD-X or the 160gr CX (monolithic). Any good arguments for or against?

This is the answer, let your rifle decide. I personally have had better results with Federal ammo in the 7 PRC.

If you can find the Hornady Match ammo with the ELDMs, I would use those.

Skip the CX. On the hard side hard for medium sized critters and known accuracy issues.
I'd go X or M.

Which ever ammo shoots best in your rifle. Both of your choices will kill a axis for sure as long as you make a good shot.

The ELD-X and ELD-M are pretty proven in my opinion.
If either shoot well out of your rifle that is the one I would use.

I had great results with the federal ELD-X in my Bergara 7PRC.

I haven’t looked in a while, but I was totally unaware that other companies were making factory ammo for 7PRC now. That’s great to hear.

Hornady, Federal, Nosler and Weatherby all have 7 PRC factory ammo. As of today Ammoseek has 394 vendors with ammo.
