Going on a 14 day float trip for moose. Which gun would you take? 300WM with a Nightforce NX8 2.5-20 or a Ruger Guide Gun 375 Ruger with a Trijicon 1-6.

Forgot to mention this is unguided, the 375 is for possible bear protection.

300 WSM is fine for any Griz you come across. In AK, Griz get hunted so they tend to avoid people. 300 better for longer shots on Moose.

Take the 375. That’s a great setup for moose and bear, especially for float hunts where you may very well come around a bend into a bull.

My float hunt gun is a 375HH, It’s almost exclusively purposed for float hunts, lower power optic, shorter barrel. Nice and handy for tossing in the raft or climbing steep banks for a better view. I think I’ve taken like 7 bulls and 3 bears with that gun.

I hunt a lot with a 30-06 and a 308 but if a float hunt is what’s happening, I grab that 375. 260g Accubonds are an excellent choice for moose with a 375.

Is the brand going to have a major effect on what the bullet does on target?
If the bullet can't get to the target because the rifle is a POS, then yes for sure. That's at least the context I was looking at it.

I seriously doubt the guy is considering a rifle that is so shitty that he can’t hit a target with it. Maybe, but I doubted it.

That Ruger is the cats ass for the intended purpose. That is exactly what it was built for. I had one in 375 Ruger and I shoot a few 300 Magnums too. My vote is for the 375 Ruger. That cartridge shoots very flat and is powerful and is good to as far away as anyone would care to shoot a moose. The rifle is compact and handles very well in a raft or canoe and the scope it is wearing is perfect. In this case, a 300 Mag is not better.

Out of those two, the 375. Even though it is a 375 Ruger, it has the nostalgia factor going for it.

The 300 WM is the more practical, but bigger than is needed without the cool factor of a 375.
