Which Big Kifaru Pack?

As Justin stated when ppl are mention in the T1 they are referring to the bag only on either a Duplex frame or Bikini frame.

Foliage is a gray color. This is my DT1 in foliage for an idea.

As far as the bow goes. I have no issues just using the a couple lash straps with k hooks and have done it just fine without any extra straps as well as Ed stated.

Heath at Kifaru said the Timberlines had internal frames and came all ready to strap on but you could not pack out meat sandwiched between the frame and pack so now I'm thinking the DT1 (like the one above) in foliage w/ the Longhunter lid is gonna fit the bill best however, Heath said the Hunting Platform Frame would be better for heavier loads but weighs more. I was pretty much convinced the Bikini was the way to go. Still unsure about the frame. Opinions?

Yes the standard Timberline is an internal frame pack. This is what I prefer and use. Sorry for making it confusing.

I was just talking about the Duplex Timberline bag on either a Duplex or Bikini frame. Thus DT1 or BT1.

If I were you I would get the Bikini frame and whichever bag design you like better. Be it the High camp or the Duplex Timberline bag.

I would call Kifaru today and ask for the hunting rep. He has more time in the field with the bags than anyone. He's also packed out 13 animals with the Bikini frame and triple that with a duplex and a ton with the standard timberline as well, so he may be able to help with your decision on frames.

:)

My problem with the T1 is the integrated frame that doesn't enable me to sandwich the meet between the frame and the pack. I hunt larger animals (bear, elk, bison, boar) and want that weight as close to my body as possible...so the Duplex seems like a better choice. Not certain but...

Kifaru rep says the Hunting Platform is better for this than the Bikini frame. opinions?

I want the best possible bow holder cuz I have nearly $2K wrapped up in my Carbon Element...if possible i'd like to be able to remove the bow w/o taking the pack off for those times you quickly walk up on a shooter. My Aberlestocks have this but I don't see anything comparable on the Kifaru site.

The Foliage Green looks almost gray on the Kifaru site...is the color true as shown?

Regardless, I wouldn't put meat in between the bag and frame. Carrying your bow on your pack during shooting hours is a bad idea IMO, but you could adapt the Eberlestock system to the Kifaru quite easily (I did it, but IMO it is cr@p so I went to the grab-it/lash strap - much better).

Heath said I should talk to Aron so I left him a voice mail message with my toll free number yesterday. So Aron, when do you suppose Aron will be calling? LOL

It happened that during a hog hunt I was just beginning my trek from the truck, easily a mile from where I expected to see hogs when BANG! A razorback pops out right near a dumpster ON THE STREET! Totally took me by surprise...I hadn't taken 20 paces. I do not set myself up for such situations when hunting but when packing out there are times when you might wanna be able to grab you bow off your pack. Gotta bear tag that needs filling or something. It happens.

What size pockets and lid is that? Looks like what I ordered...medium pockets on pack & small on belt.

We'll see. Aron uses the same gear and spends far more time in the field than I ever will and this is what he uses so I expect to be very happy with it once I load er up. I'm know within 3-4 miles. That's when my Sitka 4500 Bivy begins to grow old.

Nice. I need to get a medium belt pouch too.

I told you so... Ed F

Yeah ya did Ed! And I am very appreciative of your comments...got me looking more closely at the pack I purchased and found your opinion was shared by others who actually hunt (as opposed to keyboard peckers). Thanks buddy!
