Hello all, I’m sitting on two actions and want to get a prefit for one of these two. Just want opinions as I’m having a hard time deciding. I have a tikka t3x stainless from a 270 and a kelbly atlas lite la 308 bolt. I was originally going to do one in 280 ai and one in 338 wby rpm. Which would you put the prefit 7mm backcountry on and why?

Are tikkas even approved for 7bc?

This is kinda my hesitation. I spoke to two barrel companies this week. One said they wouldn’t do it because they had issues with a tikka in 277 fury they did. The other company said no problem.

I would contact Kelblys and ask them if their action can handle that pressure and if so I would use theirs.

The guys were talking on the S2H podcast a few months back on an episode about the 7mm BC, and said that Seekins had to redesign their action to accommodate the additional pressure. I wouldn’t want to chance it with a standard Tikka action if it were me. Buy an action designed to handle 7mm BC and turn your existing actions into what you originally intended.

They have two barreled actions in 7mm bc on their website so I figured they do. I tried to reach out to them on Thursday but didn’t get a hold of anyone.

I'd build on a bat igniter long action, 1-1/8" tenon diameter, use a 1.250 shank barrel(have to with larger tenon anyway). Get as much meat around that bitch as possible.

I have two Origin LA. If I had known the 7bc was coming out, I would not have ordered a 280AI barrel (still waiting). I want a 7BC badly.

Weatherby offers the cartridge in their 307 line. I think most M700 clones should be ok.

Personally...I have my reservations about pressure in a Tikka. Would in a Factory Remington too. Do I think several "factory lroduction" actions can handle it...undoubtedly. Enough whispers about overpressure to make me cautious about Tikkas. Great actions though. I have a few...some rebarreled customs. Once I ses for sure they offer it I'd be more warm to it.

Are you sure it wasn’t the 7PRC? Because they are in fact chambering in that cartridge now.
Like I said...take it with a grain of salt because it came up in a search of who is chamnbering for that round...I looked for Tikka because I have a donor and thought if they do it I'd be more comfortabke doing it. I haven't SEEN one. Also haven't seen a 7PRC...but another search said they do that one as well now. I have done one with a Orefit and it is MONEY.

Another place I read Proof is doing 7 BC Prefits for Tikka...but I haven't actually seen one of those yet either. I'll wait a while to see how it shakes out before I try it.

I keep hearing this about the actions. However when the round was released, it was claimed that the casing took the extra pressure and not the action. Has that been proven one way or the other? I feel like there is some misinformation there.

Either way, I wouldn't subject either of those nice actions to a 7BC.

TIKKA was NOT listed as a company chambering the 7 BC at the 2005 Shot show ... so whatever I read was mistaken, at least at this point. There you go ... internet is WRONG AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

Proof definitely chambers prefits for several actions. It does list Kelbly as one that it does on Barrel Model 145920..........Kelbly Prometheus, Kelbly Nanook, Kelbly Atlas. Does not say Atlas Light though....so ????

Since Unknown does a lot of Tikka work, I sent them an email asking if they have done any 7BC builds yet on the Tikka. We'll see what they say. As I said, I definitely have reservations until I see Tikka themselves do it.

I get it, it’s the internet lol, as slow as Tikka is too introduce new cartridges. I’d be shocked, from what I’ve heard tikka is slow because the have to wait for CIP, the European version of SAAMI. If I recall correctly, UM said on the Shoot2hunt podcast they won’t be doing a 7 BC anytime soon.

I believe UM is not doing any 7BC builds period so you'll need to keep looking.
