First off I should introduce myself. I'm originally from MN. Live in Eastern ND and have hunted eastern MT, Western NE, SD, and ND. Addicted to hunting mule deer. Have not tried my luck at Elk but have a hunt planned for next year.
What are some general rules of thumb on setting a backpack camp? I've hunted an area on and off for 5 years that I've never backpack camped into in fear of bumping game in a bad way by setting camp in a feeding/bedding/travel area. I've seen plenty of deer a mile to a mile and a half in and the most a guy could go would be 2 or 2.5 miles (roads) and then set camp. This area is rolling hills/breaks not the mountains. Any pointers or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I've acquired some gear over the years and want to try this style of hunting to see what I need or do not need for future hunts
Thanks
