When do elk strip velvet?

When do elk normally start rubbing off the velvet? I was up in Colorado and then bulls looked to be still growing and in velvet.

Early August, a few will make it to mid but would be a rarity to see one in velvet past Aug 15

Most will be rubbed off by the 3rd week. Just in time for the first group of cows going into heat and ready to breed

I'll normally see them with white antlers towards the end of the first week of August.
