As far as rings I had to order up high sportsmatch even with just a 44mm objective due to the fatty carbon barrel sticking up more than the skinny OEM tikka barrels. Yours will be sticking up even higher with a standard sendero contour as mine is a sendero lite so I am hoping ya didn't order the low Hawkins rings as it may run into objective on the barrel issue. The standard sportsmatch were too low and I ended up putting them on my bros lefty Tikka I posted above with the SWFA 3-9 so they didn't go to waste. ;)

Damnit man. I have the the medium (lower of two 30mm tikka options) sportsmatch rings sitting waiting for my near clone of your WSM for the NXS 2-10x42 intended for it.

After reading all of these posts, I’m starting to lean towards a rifle chambered in .270. I’d like .280AI, but availability is important to me. Got my hands on a Tikka t3x today, it’s a light gun for sure! The stock feels a little cheesy, but I’d have a lot easier time hauling it around. Thanks for the input everyone. Still comparing a few other rifles. I’m not completely sold on .270 at this point in time either. It would be nice to be shooting a caliber that doesn’t beat me up on range days though.

Have shot a sendero (and it’s kissing cousin the long range) in 300 RUM quite a bit.

Also own a tikka t3x 7mm mag with a 4-14 leupold that weighs in at 7.125 lb unloaded.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned already, but I would do everything you can to shoot some of these lightweight guns before dropping some coin on them.

Yes they’re fun to weigh, but if you’re used to a sendero, they are a beotch to shoot.

That being said, MOA targets are in a world of trouble inside of 1200 with my tikka, but I’m having a gun built as we speak that’s just a bit heavier because I’m tired of shooting what feels like a toy in my hands

To me, the perfect rifle weight to balance shootability and weight is right between 8.5 and 9.5 lbs

I have a Rem Model 7 in a 7-08 that I had restocked and the bolt skeletonized a long time ago. With a 1.5 x 5 Leupold scope and neoprene scope cover it weighs 5 lb 1 oz unloaded. I have had more offers to buy that rifle than any other gun I own. I built it for deer hunting in PA where my shots are always under 100 yds but I am going to start carrying it for elk when I am hunting in timber and shots are limited. Its like carrying a stick compared to my mags. While it will shoot sub MOA it is not built for long range shooting.

Agree that 270win in a light rifle has more tolerable recoil (unbraked) than the same weight rifle in magnum chamberings, no experience to report w AIs. IMO it is toward the high end of non-flinch-inducing recoil in light guns. My 270 is 7#, shooting 160 gr factory loads. Its recoil about equals my 9# 7 rem mag.

8lbs on the nose (no bipod, unloaded)
1/2 moa rifle

I have a T3x Superlite sub 7 lbs scoped in 300win mag but its not the easiest rifle to shoot you REALLY have to hold onto it.

I had my 7mm-08 ultralight rig out this weekend, went 5 for 5 on a 6" steel plate at varying ranges between 2 and 400 yards. She's wearing a 1.5-8x32 optic, and will stay above the requisite velocity for reliable terminal performance well beyond any range I'd ever shoot. I'd say both yours and mine are fine setups for everything in North America at intermediate hunting distances.

Agree. That 1.5 x 8 scope sounds perfect for that rifle and caliber.

Indeed she is- Vortex Razor HD LH, which is some really fantastic glass. We'll be headed to Wyoming for antelope in October, and it should be just about perfect.

There's some real lightweight guns here. My Semi Custom 700 Rem in 300 Win Mag weighs 9 3/4 lbs. It has a #3 Bartlein barrel and brake with a HS Precision stock with a VX-3 CDS scope on it. Shooting 200 gr ELD-X this gun thumps pretty good.
I've shot some of the lightweight guns mentioned in this thread and they are not for me especially in magnum chamberings. I'd like to lose a pound with a McMillan stock but then I'd want a much better, slightly heavier scope which is the direction I'm heading. Heavier guns just shoot better. Trying to find the right balance is tricky.

Alright fellas how do you handle the recoil of sub-7 lb rifles in chamberings like 7mm Mag, 300 Win Mag, etc? Inquiring minds want to know.

I had a Tikka T3x in '06 that was 7 lbs. scoped, and I wanted to shoot 180's out of it. I did, but it was all I wanted in the recoil dept.

Mind you, most of my shooting is off the bench for load development and practice. I'm not afraid of shooting just about anything in a hunting situation. But I do want to develop loads (from the bench) and practice a lot.
