Ya the valve on the source took a little getting used to for me but as mentioned above, it only squirts a bit if you have the bladder/pack compressed pretty good. They also offer a different bite valve available for purchase if you don't like the one that comes with it. I know, more money for an already expensive bladder, but it's an option if you need it.

I have not used the universal tube adapter to fill the bladder but I do use the built in quick disconnects to connect an inline sawyer mini filter to a dirty water bladder and fill my source bladder without removing it from the pack. It works pretty slick. This last year was my first season using that system but it was pretty awesome to not remove the bladder from the pack and have gravity fill it while I heated water and let my mountain house hydrate each night. The quick disconnects provide some nice flexibility (I know other brands use them as well).

I quit drinking from the bladders and have started using the Nalgene bottle, but I do carry a 2L MSR Dromlite bladder to refill my Nalgene. I also use the big 10L Dromedary bladder for camp water!

Do you keep dirty water in both bladders and steripen in nalgene?

What is the best way to fill them if you are not using filter pump?
I was thinking of going this route, maybe?

I have loved my Osprey bladder. It's going on its third year now. It's the only one I've ever had that never got a funk to it. I've left water in it for months, but it never smells. It's tough too. Carrying loads of elk sheds on top of it should have killed it off by now, but it still doesn't leak a drop.

I have used several over the years From no namers, freebies with packs, platypus, camelbacks, and my current favorite the msr hydromedary 3L. Very tough with an easy to bite yet durable valve. Never had a camelback leak in a pack but their valves just suck! (Good pun right?!). They break down easily and all the replacements over the years could have got me a couple more msr's instead! I still use camelbacks with an inline sawyer as a dirty bag, but use it less these days in favor of the msr.

Nalgene with an MSR Dromedary hung between the bag and frame. I keep a piece of tenacious tape over the flip cap as a just in case.

Source keeps the water from having a funky taste and the upkeep is minimal. So far, I find it to be a robust system and they are my new go to choice for bladders. Right now I use a 1L, but will buy Source when its time to replace my 3L.

The MSR dromedary has been a good choice as well. These also make a nice cool pillow for warmer nights.

I've had good luck with the regular Camelbak military line bladders as well as the Source wide bladders. I think the Camelbak has a better bite valve system... both the Source style valves I've used are kind of weak in comparison... but the bladder is solid and has a large opening to make cleaning easy.

For my filter system and keeping water in camp I like the MSR Dromedary. It's burly, rolls ups pretty small and gives me an extra 6 liters of dirty water.
