I have a picky 308 that I’m trying to start over with. What is your go to, best luck in every 308 you’ve tried recipe? (I’ll be sure to work up to the load)

Bullets I have on hand:
150 Hornady BTSP
165 Hornady BTSP
165/168 Nosler BT
155 Scenar (this with benchmark has given me 3/4” groups at 2680fps with 20” barrel but hoping to find a hunting bullet load)
168 Berger VLD Hunting
180 Hornady SST

Powder I have on hand for 308
Varget 3/4lb from 2015
H4895
IMR 4064 (rifle really seems to dislike this powder)
Benchmark

Brass: Lapaua

Primer:
CCI BR2 (best luck with these)
Winchester large rifle
Federal large rifle

Routinely sub-MOA with h4895 and hornady 165gr BTSP, 2650fps. Not a super long range load, but 0.3-0.5MOA when I don’t screw it up.

Still waiting on a barrel to try stuff out but I was planning to use 168 VLD or 165 TGK, Varget or N150, CCI 200, and Lapua brass.

Fed 210, Varget 44 ish, Norma Brass, 168gn SMK or 175gn SMK. Never fails to bore a nice hole through just about anything. Multiple rifles. Ps Don't give me any flak over SMK's, in 30 cal they kill.

I've had good results with Varget, 150 gr Barnes TTSX, CCI large rifle primers. 2725 fps with a 20" barrel

From my research and the comments on this thread, it looks like 43-46 grains of Varget with 150-178 grain bullets is the got to for accuracy

Varget in a 308 has been a consistent go to for many for a really long time. 165gn Nosler BT have shot well for me too but the SMK's always tighter, easy to tune and in bulk way cheaper.

165gr SGK with Winchester large rifle primers and brass. 44grs of RL15. gives me .307moa at 100yds and .560 at 250yds. This is out of a R700 Varmint that has been cut back to 20" and utilizing the factory plastic stock.

Using 180gr Hornady SST's at 42grs of RL15 gives similar results.

Lapua brass, Fed 210M, Varget and the 152 hammer hunter was great in my Tikka. If I were to get another 308 I'd try the 124 hammer hunter

Also had good luck with Norma 202 and a 168 amax.

The 168 Berger VLD Hunting bullet. If the Scenars are good, the VLD should be too. I'm a fan of the Scenar also.

Try 46.5-47.0 varget with the 155 Lapua in Winchester brass 45.5-46.0 in Federal. Should be close to 2900 fps in a 24" barrel.

I found that many 308 rifles like the bullet close (0.010) from the lands or even touching. I pulled 5 bullets slightly in RP 150 CORE LOKT factory stuff and reseated with 0.010 jump length. Groups went from 1.5 to 0.75. Tested twice back to back . This was in a light barrel 700 ADL. It worked. So I picked bullets that have a slightly shorter ogive to tip length so they'd magazine feed. Some 308s like 150gr and others prefer 165 or larger weights. It's hard to go wrong with varget, RL15, Benchmark. And while 4064 is a great powder I've never reloaded for a 308 that liked it BEST. I can use 1 gr under Max varget, F210M, and seat 0.10 off the lands in an awful lot of 308s and look like a freakin' magician.

I have 2 pet loads that seem to work in every .308 I've tried them in.

150gn Hornady SP, CCI primer, 45gn of 4064. It's a mild load, just hitting 2600fps, but it shoots consistently under an inch in at least 5 rifles I've tried.

150gn Accubond, CCI benchrest primer, 50.5gn of CFE223.
This one's a freaking rocket ship! 2890fps out of a 20" barrel & in 3 out of 5 rifles, shot groups at .40 The other 2 were right at 1"
