What's your "didn't draw" backup plan?

Take full advantage of my time not hunting, and post on here. Probly cry about point creep, all the outta staters that are ruining things, the wolves, the bears, the democrats. Might even start in on the archery and creedmoor hunters and how much game they loose.

Or I'll just grab an OTC tag

Plan A is OTC tags for general seasons, Plan B is draw hunts.

I always plan my year around OTC general seasons and then change those plans if I or my children draw anything.

Utah general tags.

This will be the last year though as they are increasing somewhat significantly next year.

Going forward...fishing more probably.

Didn't draw anything good (WY Resident), so I'm stuck hunting general.

I've never really hunted Elk General in my area so we are going every other weekend with horses, just running country and trying to find bulls. Once we find bulls we will keep an eye on them until September and then go kill em. (I wish).

Arizona archery deer is always my back up. Usually i always have a bull tag in idaho as well but that might change next year. Utah OTC is always a plan c

Only drew a sandhill crane tag in AZ so...
* AZ: OTC black bear and mountain lion.
* NM: Landowner pronghorn
* AK: Blacktail
* Mexico (January): Coues with possibility of "management" mule deer

Will spend a weekend helping friends on their Coues hunt.

Nothing for me. Will try and pick up some youth incentive cow tags for my kids. Lots of work for me in the fall.

Didn't draw Kansas or Colorado. I did draw Oklahoma though as did my son. After that I'll go to Kansas with my buddy to help him try and get one found.

At some point, there is going to be a joker that decides it would be easier to just go poaching than play the whole Ponzi scheme / points / point creep game across multiple states.

Being on the east coast, i only apply for the 1 hunt i want and when am likely to draw it. Draw it and will put in for vacation time. No draw and will keep on doing what we do around here.

Collecting points these days.

It would be cheaper and easier for sure. Folks been doing that stuff for years.

This year I don't have to find out!! But on the years I don't pull a tag( basically most years) I have a local state forest that is all steep hills and 65k acres that I hunt. I go in as deep as I reasonably can for day hunts ( they don't allow offsite overnight camping) and hunt big woods whitetails. If I'm being honest with myself I enjoy it more than I do the western hunts anymore because as I'm getting older I enjoy the travel and planning less than I used to with the big western hunts. I live in NY.

Hunt the general slaughter elk and deer in Idaho and be an extra set of eyes and glorified camp jack on two Bighorn sheep hunts
