I voted 100-200. I thought through the mountain bucks I’ve killed the last decade, while there has been some necessity for longer range shooting, most of the bigger ones were killed between 60 yards and 150 yards.

Most have been what I would consider close shots. It’s not hard to get close on a lot of high country bucks.

This year I did shoot one in the 560 yard range. It was in a sea of willow, and another hunter was hunting the same buck. I wasn’t about to pass up a shot I could make just to try and get a closer shot.

I like it 😎

All depends on the location. During the early WA high hunt we can generally get close. The buck I shot this year was 40yds after watching him for a couple days. During the October general hunt we choose to reach out farther, up to 550yds shooting across basins. Could we get closer, sometimes. The terrain is so steep and there are so many deer around a percentage of stalks would get blown from the unknown. And, if you bump the buck you want you may never see it again or it could move into a much worse spot to pack out. We generally chose to wait for optimal conditions and take a longer shot. These deer are undisturbed however and if the weather stays decent, we have lots of time. If I were hunting in a high pressure area this may be different. We chose to pack into areas with little to no pressure so we too have little to no pressure when choosing a shot.

Of 24 mule deer kills, our average is 208 yards. Not all those are high country, but most are mountain deer. I agree with @dirtytough , it's not too difficult to get pretty close on a lot of mountain bucks if the terrain has a lot of texture to it.
