What’s the coolest thing you found in the back country

Wild! I’m no veterinary forensic pathologist but I’m going to gamble and say red stag…lol

Looks protected by the elements and birds by the narrow chasm.

And how cool is it to say chasm?

Neat pic but also no way of knowing if it had been there for years and years.

And notice the ribcage is gone, as are both fronts and some leg bones on the back right.

Bumping this.

Found some cool stone points, a circuit board from a weather balloon, petroglyphs, and the occasional weird looking log/stick/brush tipi structure that's not very big, when up in the forests.

I was out scouting and found a plane crash. It was pretty erie. I looked up the tail number and found out the details of what happened. If I remember correctly it was three people in the 70’s. No survivors

Not very back country but interesting. Driving around looking for coyotes to shoot. About six inches of snow. Saw a car parked where no car should be. Was an old rusted out Toyota. Wallet in glove compartment. Dropped wallet off at local cop shop. Told them to follow my tracks in the snow to car. They called an hour later and said it had been stolen a few days before 150 miles away.

And they just left all the pieces?

It was down in a bowl. Apparently the pilot was flying low into the bowl and was banking to avoid hitting the ground and couldn't get it done. It would have been really difficult from what I could tell to haul it out. My guess is they would have had to helicopter it out.

In many bodies of water, at least around me, responsibility falls on the owner for removal of a sunken vessel. Not sure how they handle the line of succession when the owner dies in the sinking or if they even burden a grieving family with such a matter. I'd have to imagine plane crashes are handled similarly.

When I was living in Spokane in the 80s they had to lower the lake to work on the dam. I think I remember they found two airplanes on the bottom among other things.

In 81 we were working on the Italian peaks rare II and found an airplane on a hillside. Looked like it was skimming the ground in the fog and found an outcrop.

In 74 we were doing the Absaroka wilderness and the crew found a bomber scattered over two ridges from the 50s.

When I worked in SE Alaska I saw three helicopters come out under other helicopters. Makes your butt pucker when you are flying every day. My helicopter crashed with my tentmate the week after I came home.

It's amazing how close you can dance to the edge until its your turn.
