In reading and researching on high country mule deer I've seen several references to "small" basins holding deer in the early season. As in "don't overlook small basins!" And " even small basins can often hold a mature buck" etc.
What would be considered a small basin? How many acres roughly? Distance across? Thinking specifically of CO.
When people say a small basin can hold deer does that mean a buck will spend all summer in the basin as long as he feels secure or are these areas so small that they can only support a deer, or group of deer, for a week or 2 and then they would need to move to another "small" basin?
Just trying to calibrate my mind and focus my scouting.
Thanks!
