Whats a good salary to you?

My Take:

Earning enough to pursue your interests while not having to worry about your necessary living expenses is a Good Salary.

Here in Alaska, a $100k would barely be middle class if you compared yourself to all of the guys working Slope jobs and the like, along with their $90k trucks, Super Cubs and a boat for the ocean.

My wife and I own and operate a small home service business. No employees. No kids. Mostly own a home at 2.7% interest. Business is an LLC taxed as an S Corp, which means very little tax payed at the expense of minimal contributions towards Social Security. We work 5 1/2 months of the year and Net a bit over $100k after business expenses & personal tax.

To be able to create a lifestyle that allows so much freedom is achievable if you really focus on the priorities that matter to you and not get caught up in the status quo of those around you. The job that allows you to live a lifestyle that alot of millionaires would envy doesn't have to be glamorous or exciting, but the freedom it offers can allow you to seek fulfillment outside of your profession.

For the example that was being discussed, why isn’t the husband leveling up on his income? It would seem if he is comfortable with making $60k and not wanting to progress that would be an issue also.

Just curious since the conversation was all about the wife doing something.

Strange how most homeschool kids don’t even do state testing so your claims are sort of…not true.

Also strange how in homeschool situations, often times it’s the parents doing the grading and deciding that their kid is doing well. I’ve seen it time and time again, parents think their kids are special so they say they are doing well at homeschool.

While public school is far from perfect, it has equal amounts of drawbacks as homeschool does. Neither are perfect, they both sort of suck. Homeschooling just gives parents a false sense of success and safety.

Most school districts are currently making a push to increase literacy standards but the school day still ends when it ends and so many parents aren’t willing to do what is required for their kids suuccess at home. Homework dosent get done, kids play video games instead of reading or being read to. Parents are drinking and smoking pot after a long day at work. In many if not most cases it’s a failure of parenting.

It reminds me of my buddy who was pissed off because his kid was falling behind in math, he swore up and down he was going to do whatever it took to help his kid so he met with the teacher. He was even more pissed after that meeting because the teacher told him to work with his kid at home.

When he said he’d do anything it took, what he meant was he was going to ask the teacher to do more for his kid….just isn’t a possibility when there’s 30 kids in a class.

Shitty parents blame the school system and have unrealistic expectations while they are also unwilling to put in a few hours in the evenings to help their kids.

What reason is there to do the state equivalency exams prior to 12th grade? They’re a joke and are continually watered down to make public school appear competent. With SATs, college placement testing, college gpa, trade school attendance, etc. the homeschooled kids are outperforming those in public school.

The lazy parent that homeschools narrative must be new. It was always my observation that the lazy parents would much rather send their kids to public school than have to care for them during the day.

It’s crazy that some people are still critical of homeschooling after seeing the way it responded to COVID and the new gender study curriculum that is being implemented in many states.

Typo. BFD. $35 an hour for a normal work schedule is $73k per year.

Even then, if we're speaking about daycare only, it's still only 5 or 6 years until they go to school, so $73k for 5 years is $365k.

It’s a typo with a $1 million dollar price tag, lol.

So, we started at $250k for 18 years. Now it’s $365k for 5 years, and you still have a government employee educating your child. Dropping off and picking kids up from daycare will also often get in the way of a professional career.

The gender study thing is a total myth. While there may be some libtard teachers trying to push it, it’s absolutely not being implemented at the state level.

Anyways though, without state testing or any sort of equivalent testing, how can you make those claims about homeschool? You are speaking to your own personal bias and making things up.

Homeschooling is generally done by low income, low IQ ultra religious MAGA types who think their kids are going to become gay if they go to public school. Homeschool kids get bullied and have poor social skills as well.

Public school sucks, homeschool sucks just as much and while there are some parents who do great at homeschool, there are also public school educators that do a great job. Both are a broken system. Obviously homeschool kids fared better during COVID because nothing changes for them, they were already at home, that’s a really poor argument but whatever.

You’d be shocked how many kids get pulled out to be homeschooled only to be back in school a few months later because their parents simply didn’t have the patience, intellect or want to be around their kids that much.

Because in his career field, leveling up the income would take a masters degree or a change of location. I agree though, he could do something but he’s not the most ambitious guy so it’s definetly partly on him.

In the end the issue isn’t that he dosent make a lot or that his wife insists on homeschooling but both of those conditions are occurring while members of their church are anonymously donating clothing, food and money because they are concerned about the kids….that alone isn’t even the worse part, in my mind, the worse part is that both parents are ok with that and think it’s an acceptable way to live. Who knows, maybe they were raised like that themselves.

At some point people need to look in the mirror and ask themselves if they are doing the right thing. A few years ago I had a coworker (female) call me up crying because her car was stuck in the snow, she had her 3 year old with her, was pregnant and her husband was blackout drunk at 4pm on a Tuesday on the other side of town.

I went and dug her car out and all I could think of was how embarrassed her husband must be that another man had to come dig his family out of the snow, that’s how I’d feel taking food and clothing donations from a church when there were 2 able bodied people who could be working.

The sad thing is, he probably wasn’t embarrassed at all about it.

A man that isn’t happy about his situation and wants to blame his wife for that situation, when he himself isn’t willing to do something about that situation has no grounds to stand on imo.

If you look at how many pickups a year you could make falling in the 80s vs now we definitely are not winning

He was absolutely not embarrassed by it and continues to go get blackout drunk most days. His wife makes excuses for him so he just keeps doing it. She’s dumb too for staying with him when he prioritizes getting wasted over his young family.

It’s a good example of parents who should not be parents.

I don't really have a dog in this fight nor do I care to research it but I’d bet that both these statements are completely and statistically wrong

The gender studies thing is absolutely not a myth. I don’t want to derail the thread any further, but it isn’t difficult to find plenty of material on it.

It’s not a matter of homeschooled kids doing better during Covid. Public schools never should have closed. The teachers unions and states made an absolute circus out of it, and most of the kids that weren’t homeschooled or didn’t start homeschooling were at a great disadvantage.

The rest of your stereotypes are what are known zombie lies, and that’s assuming they ever were true.

Have a nice night. It sounds like you are trying to convince yourself as much as you are me though. You are absolutely making things up to suit your narrative and that’s fine. I obviously ruffled your feathers which tells me that you aren’t that secure in your decisions.

I think there are good people and bad people from all walks of life, in my experience, homeschool dosent appeal to the best and brightest minds but I say that while fully admitting that I believe our public education system is severely flawed.

Way to dodge all the data I provided, much of which came from the department of ed, lol.

I didn’t dodge it, I got tired of you making stuff up so I didn’t read your post. I’m trying to get my workout in and help my wife meal prep for the week since she’s going to go to work tomorrow and bring in an income.

Somebody had to pay taxes to support stay at home parents right?

In the end, neither of us are going to convince the other one of anything and neither of us really care or are emotionally invested in what the other thinks so **** it right? I have strong opinions about women who stay at home but takingbthis thread in this direction wasn’t my intent.

I provided the data that supports what I said. You have pushed a bunch of nonsense about a topic you have no knowledge or involvement in. It’s pretty easy to see when you’re spouting stereotypes and myths that are two generations old. The homeschooling family today is not the same one from when we were kids. Even private religious schools have been getting a huge influx of students from secular households, and this is due to the continued failure of public school.

No one is telling you how to live your life, but a lot of men don’t need their wives to contribute to the household income, and it’s pretty shallow to judge a woman by the income she brings in.
