Why don't you take a look at one of the 20' Alaknak Tents. They make an awfully nice base camp, and are good for the family camping as well. Good luck with decision! For me though, if I had that much, I would look to get it split up into $500 increments, if that's possible, and sell them in order to secure an Outdoorsmans Tripod setup and a Kifaru setup. I would also add to the Sitka and KUIU collections, as the giftcards were sold.
I have a nice tripod with the Outdoorsmans head. I have all the packs and shelters I need as soon as my orders come in. We butcher our animals but I don't want to do all the grinding etc. Not going to spend money on the latest greatest clothing line. I have clothes that work pretty good. They don't all wear the same name, and the colors don't match but I don't think animals care that much.
It seems like the guys on here buy clothes like most ladies do
The safe is a good idea. And the investment idea from littlebuff is also haha
I hear you about the clothing, but comfort in the backcountry is of extreme importance, and solid mountaineering gear can be a means to that end. Good luck!
