What would you do? Rebarrel gone wrong.

There are guys that make custom adapters if smith won’t redo it or modify an adapter to work for your application.

I think suing gunsmith, selling barrel, etc are silly tbh

A good gunsmith would just make it right and redo threads losing under an inch

And a reasonable customer would be OK compromising with the smith just turning down the adapter's shoulder until the OG fits over. 10 minute job including setup

It could be that the GS was saying in order to make 5/8-24 work he needed to take off 2” in order to get the thickness of the barrel so that a shoulder would be there.

OP- I did a 308 barrel that at my desired length didn’t have enough thickness for 5/8-24 with a shoulder. So I threaded it 9/16 then used an adaptor whenever I shot it suppressed. It sounds like this is what the GS did for you. I’m now in the process of recutting and rethreading that barrel to 17”. I’ll be losing about 2.5” when I do it, but I think I’m going to happy with it. I’m changing the purpose of this particular rifle just a bit and the shorter barrel is actually going to be a good thing.

OP, I've worked with some excellent gunsmiths, and I've worked with some utter clowns. Even the excellent ones occasionally make a mistake though. Especially when it's all verbal, and you ask for something that doesn't make sense to them in terms of how things are normally done.

The single best thing you can do in the future in working with any gunsmith, is to provide them with an itemized, point-by-point list of the work you need done. And go over it with them, line by line. The more you need done, the more important this is. It's essentially a pilot's checklist. You don't give them info so they can get it right, you give them the info in such a clear, itemized way they can't get it wrong. It's not a knock on them - it simply helps with shop processes.

This is a good lesson learned. Be specific with your gunsmith, make sure he understands what your asking.

I’d send it to someone who does know and have it rethreaded if the smith is not willing to.

Outside of Rokslide, nobody knows that you need a sub 750 barrel to fit an OG suppressor. It’s a very niche suppressor.

I’d probably have him chop it and thread 5/8

Shoot it and if the velocity is not adequate for for distance you want to shoot, rebarrel.

Or research who does the machined in bell bushings. But I’d suspect the lead time will be further out.
